Always a great experience at Sixt. Rented a 'RAV4 or similar' from the super convenient Shore Hotel location in Santa Monica and received a much nicer Mercedes SUV. Pick-up was super easy and painless.

Convenient rental car in Shore Hotel. As long as you are happy renting a BMW and returning the car in the 9-5 time frame they are open, this is a great service. Expensive, but we found it worth it for the convenience.

Hello , When you have a problem with your vehicle, type engine light coming on, and you are at 40 degrees on the road, with the children, you just need someone on the phone who picks up when you call for help! Nobody in Santa Monica gave us a phone number in case of trouble, no instructions if it should happen that check engine light. In the event of a problem You don't want to wait 2 hours for an email to arrive, you don't want automatic messaging that tells you (very quickly and only in English) to type 1, then 3, then I don't know what and who is hanging up. You don't want the person at Sixt in Santa Monica to hang up on you 3 times (!!!) and tell you that they can't help us and that you have to call this number or you won't understand anything. Your Sixt assistance system is a nightmare in the United States, we have no indication, no one on the phone or just someone telling you to wait, we tried to reach you for 4 hours, to finally manage on our own with a garage which can testify to the panic we had at not having a solution. (Pep Boy's in Bakersfield, ask for Bill). Indeed, with an engine light on they told us that it was not safe to start again, even if the coolant and the oil level were redone. We lost 1 day of our vacation, we couldn't go see Sequoia Park even though we've been celebrating for months. We even called Sixt in France, which could not help us. A nightmare, fortunately Pep Boy's garage was able to help us in the end and we were able to leave and return the vehicle to San Francisco. Very disappointed with Sixt in the United States, while France is very good. Cordially.

Sixt is the perfect place for any driver aged 21 and above with a wide selection of rental cars available. There is no minimum time that you need to have held a driving license. Drivers under the age of 25 will also need to pay a Young Driver Surcharge, but this is same as with all other major car rental companies.
Most renters just need to bring a valid Driver’s License and major credit card. If you’re paying with a debit card, two forms of government-issued ID must be presented along with two recent utility bills (if an in-state renter), or a round trip itinerary (if an out-of state renter). All drivers with a non-US driver's license must produce a valid passport at the time of rental. Driver's license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an international driver's license. For driver's licenses from countries not part of the international driver's license treaty, an official translation of the license must be presented with the original license. Debit cards are accepted at Sixt branches. Please be aware that two forms of government-issued ID must be presented along with two recent utility bills (if an in-state renter), or a round trip itinerary (if an out-of state renter). The necessary funds must be available. Additionally, it is not possible to pay for luxury vehicles with a credit card.
