Huge, beautiful and American. To bad its not maintained or that all the city folks come up and pollute or congest the area with non English speaking unfriendly people.

Harriman state park is such a beautiful park and I truly enjoy my morning drives into work. What I don’t enjoy is how frequently tractor trailers and commercial vehicles now use the park. I know they are not permitted to drive in the park however, nothing is being done about it. Today, I finally called the park rangers to advise and of course nothing was done. My information wasn’t even asked. All I got was a “okay, okay, okay”. It’s absolutely a risk to have these vehicles on such narrow, bumpy and potholed roads. They cross over the double yellow lines or in this case this morning; this Verizon unity bucket truck was speeding while driving reckless. Please be careful out there driving you may take a turn and find an 18 wheeler in your lane.

Trail was great, lake was beautiful!

Yes but in designated areas. please clean up when packing out for the day, I was sad to see old tin, aluminium and tarps left behind.
Yeeee the canping spots are beautiful, relatively close to the road and the trail
When in Harriman state park, Kanawauke Lake, just off Seven lakes drive. They have BBQ pits, but we usually bring our own for health safety reasons. You're surrounded by lakes.
You can swim in lake Welch or Lake Tiorati, lake Tiorati beach is smaller than Welch but definitely my favorite.
Yes they do. Just a bit north from the trail heads there's a large rv and camp ground. I do not know the cost
Some hotels and motels allow pets, and some don't. When making your reservation, just ask if they are pet friendly. If not, ask if they can recommend an accommodation near the park that is pet friendly 😊
I know that there are water fountains near the bathrooms at Tiorati circle. But, they are seasonal. I believe that there are water fountains at Lake Welch but, if I remember correctly, they were inside the facility near the restrooms (not 24 hour access spoke the ones at Tiorati Circle). I will mention that the sinks at the bathrooms at Tiorati circle have signs that say that the water is not potable! So, don't think that you can just get water at a bathroom sink.
No firearms allowed in the park
Yes cabins and cottages at Lake Sebago. Go to their website or reserve America.
Dawn to dusk
There are some by each individual lake. Some bike clubs ride the street as a group, but be careful doing that as sport car clubs do the same.
Yes
They have fire pits and small metal boxes to "grill" on
You can camp out of your car at the Beaver Pond campground. You have to make a reservation to do this. You can also do backcountry camping if you want to hike in to one of several shelters around the park - you're allowed to just show up, set up and camp within 100 yards from the shelters. My favorites are the Tom Jones shelter and the Stockbridge shelter.
Nop
Yes it is!
By the lake with the parking lot
I am not sure about it.
I think so. I know at least 1 night for sure.
Yes
No. Rule of thumb in state parks is, if you want to do it or it seems like fun, it's not allowed.
No.There is no camping place with truck
That's what I did 2 weekends ago. I'm not giving away my spot but I just drove til I liked an area and hiked in. I kept going til I passed the major trailhead where all the novice hikers would turn around and I didn't see another human being til I hiked out, it was great. I camped almost 5 miles into the mountain from where I parked which was definitely overkill but the spot was totally worth it. Just grab a trail map and go
Harriman is not a camping facility. Only by Beaver Dam campground in bear mountain . Bout 10 miles distance. Does have hook ups n showers and tent sites with platforms.
Askoti and Skannatati are stocked yearly with brown trout
I think so, but the ones I know that have an easily accessible launch site or gated. You can go to the office at the Tiorati circle and pay for an annual permit that gets you a gate key to enter the launch sites.
Hi Tor state park building like up in Bear Mountain I think there's an office there and get to fill out paperwork and ID and stuff
Yes it a nice place for picnic and camping and perfect for a summer weekend getaway. But before planning on a camping trip, I would suggest that you see the official website of Harriman State Park and talk to the customer representative for exact details.
Can definitely find a free spot near a trail headcan definitely find a free spot near a trail head
No it is not. It runs north of the New Jersey border, alongside the Hudson into Orange County. It is southeast of the Catskills. If you go to Campmor or REI there is a wonderful Trail guide for Harriman State Park. I have been hiking and canoeing there for 30 years it is an amazing place! I encourage anyone who loves the outdoors to go there all year round!
Not sure check with the office.
