Got to mark this off of our places to visit. The garden was so awesome! Wish mine was that big! The grounds and buildings, so well preserved. The volunteers were so knowledgeable! What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

Beautiful and local. Great staff and interesting subject. Visitor Center is located at the northern edge of the Ft. Vancouver National Historic Site. The visitor center is a great introduction to the Ft/ Vancouver Historic Site. The visitor center is staffed by park rangers who are very knowledgeable about the layout of the site and the history of the site. The visitor center has a narrative timeline of the Ft. Vancouver Site and lots of free tourist brochures are available There is a gift shop on site Restrooms are available. Plenty of parking including oversized vehicle parking is available. Handicap parking is available.

Great depiction of the history of the people, the fort, and Vancouver. **Must watch the amazing movie in the visitors center first, for a full understanding of the history.

Some think it originally was further up the hill, where the Washington school for the deaf is now.
We went to the book/souvenir store
The grounds are open from dawn to dusk, but the facilities like the visitor center are closed Sunday and Monday. Don't know why but it is the current schedule. Because the Fort also employs the National Forest Service and has lots of volunteers, I'm guessing it's to give people two consecutive days off.
Yes, for the most part.
National Park permit or State Park permit? Go to the much larger visitor center up the hill from Fort Vancouver, not the smaller one within the Fort itself. They handle both NPS and US Forest Service, not State Parks.
There is no food for visitors inside the reconstructed fort, but outside along Officer's row, downtown, or if you cross the tracks, there are some excellent places to eat.
Built by the HBC in 1825, it was originally called Fort Vancouver, named after Captain George Vancouver.
Yes, but carry disposable bags
You probably shouldn't for your health
