The dedication of this staff to improving the waste and recycling efforts is formidable. They are incredible resource and I hope more understand how we can all benefit from their guidance and work. Bravo!

Some if the most obstinately unhelpful and uneducated employees I've ever had the misfortune of having to interact with. Some certainly seemed capable of doing their jobs, but others, whose jobs seemed to amount to little more than "pick up object, put down object" seemed fully underqualified.

Hi Marylouise! If you’re a resident looking to dispose of trash, you can either use your designated Town Transfer Station, or either of UCRRA’s facilities - depending on your needs. Please visit the “Waste Disposal” page on our website and scroll down to the “Residents” section for information: http://www.ucrra.org/waste-disposal/
Hi Theo! The chasing arrows symbol on plastic products does NOT mean that an item is recyclable. That symbol and the number inside is simply indicating what grade of plastic the item is made from and if it was made from recycled content. Recycling rules vary depending on whether you have dual-stream recycling (metal & glass are separate from paper & cardboard) or single-stream recycling (all recycling in one bin). Contact your waste hauler or Town Transfer Station (whichever method you use for waste disposal) for specifics on what items you can recycling. In general, black plastic is not accepted as there are no facilities in the area that can process it. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact our Main Office at (845) 336-0600 M-F 8am-3pm. Have a nice day! - UCRRA Staff
I don't believe they recycle those things. You can call them
Yes.
7 am to 215pm closed Sunday they take checks and credit cards
Hi Barbara! Those are not recyclable at our facility, or any facility around here that I'm aware of. Like Steven recommended, I would try either P&T Surplus, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, or the New Paltz Reuse Center to see if they would accept them. You could also try offering them on sites like FreeCycle.com or Facebook Marketplace. Otherwise they would be considered trash. Please feel free to call our recycling hotline at (845) 336-3336 if you have any further questions.
Hi Roz! We do accept them, however this is a commercial facility therefore we don't charge by the item, we charge by the ton with a minimum charge of $20, plus a $20 fee because it is a freon unit. Alternatively, I would recommend taking your fridge to a scrap metal yard such as West Kingston Recycling on Abeel Street in the City of Kingston - they would most likely take it for free (of course always check with them before you head down there). Please let us know if you have any questions. Have a nice day! -UCRRA Staff
Hi Richard. You had contacted us earlier this year with your concern and we investigated your claim extensively and found absolutely no evidence of the invasive jumping worm at our site. We hold all our customer's concerns - and ANY concerns over the spread of invasive species - in very high regard and importance. Please be advised that we have never observed any of the invasive jumping worms in our compost or at our facility, including during the peak of their lifecycle when you are most apt to see them or any signs of cocoons. We handle, load, move, and screen our compost very frequently throughout the year. We sell large volumes of our compost to farmers, gardeners, landscapers, greenhouses, local municipalities, and other customers who also handle and land apply the compost up close and personal, and we have never received any claims or suspicions of the invasion jumping worm. We have resolved that your unfortunate issue did NOT originate from our compost.
