Great place with nice view of Portland bridge. You’ll be mostly in shades. There are variety of hiking trails around the area. They range from 2 to 6 miles.

Several homeless camps along the lower part of the trail. Don't hike into Forest Park this way if that sort of thing makes you squeamish. Try one of the many other nearby access points.

There is a view overlooking St.John. The road is also moderately sloped, so it is good for hiking. It's a bit disappointing that the parking lot is small.

I doubt it is explicitly prohibited but i wish you didnt do that there.
As long as they aren't too small and can pick up their feet, kids could do it. It isn't paved and there are roots and other nature that has to be avoided. The parking "lot" holds about 8-10 cars if people park right. Its just a small area immediately off the side of the road. It's usually full in my experience.
