Ritter's Frozen Custard

This is an update to my review from four months ago. We visited last night and ordered sundaes. The custard was incredibly soupy; just like the last time. The restaurant smelled of bleach and something spoiled. I am lowering my star rating from three stars to two stars. We won’t be back. I am not impressed with our first visit to Ritters. The signature sundaes we purchased tonight. The frozen custard was gritty and soupy. We’ll try them again because they are new at this location but, seeing as they are a chain, I expected better.

Took my daughter’s here for the first time, definitely a little hidden gem. Ice cream and the Italian ice was perfect. If I could make a suggestion not to have the news on while they are discussing “killing babies” or “our body our rights” with planned parenthood on and people chatting.I get certain topics are important , but there is a time and a place. Some places need just to be a sanctuary of fun and joy. Ended up turning into a positive discussion with my daughters because well it was in our face, but I would have rather it not been.

Very disappointed with our first visit. We asked for a cake cone with a single scoop of mint Oreo custard. The employee was not wearing gloves. The custard was runny and running off of the cone. The custard was melting before we got outdoors. After getting outdoors, we noticed the daily promos. We didn't see the promos offered in a convenient light inside and the promo wasn't suggested to us. On Wednesdays, evidently, a "kids cone" a.k.a. cake cone was only supposed to be $2 instead of the $4+ dollars. My daughter was unable to finish the cone. The custard ran down her arm and into her freshly styled hair. Basically, our fun custard outing was turned into an expensive disaster. While we weren't greeted when we first walked in the door, the employees were welcoming at the order line. We had to ask for napkins, however the two member staff appeared to be stalking the supply. This is the only reason for an additional star. The cleanliness of the establishment was questionable because of the two used sample spoons on the counter. Spray hand sanitizer was present but appeared to be unopened. Thinking on it, manual spray sanitizer would be more difficult to manipulate than pump or electric. We paid full price and tipped on top of that - "played it forward, if you will" - however we do not plan on returning.

This is a nice hidden little place. We tried to find a local spot to get a sweet treat at the end of the day. It wasn’t busy at all, but the custard was awesome. They also have a cute little pin map where you can pin where you’re from. We will come back our next time in the Villages.
