Hi Kim Kim. If you don't want to change the picture that is on your license now then you can renew it online and skip the line altogether. However, you will need to pay via credit card and there is a small convenience fee but I think it is worth. It saves you from getting in line at 1 or 2 am and you don't end up wasting half of your day at the motor vehicles. Most importantly you don't have to worry about COVID-19 related safety measures if you do it online. Driver license is sent to your address when it is ready.

Wednesday is traditionally the best day of the week. However, you are dealing with a unionized government entity. Your needs are not a priority. I would recommend going with a younger family member that can wait in line from 03:30 - 04:00 until they open at 08:00 while you sleep in the car. I was there from 05:00 until 13:00. Good luck.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe if you're getting the new Real ID you can get an appointment online too. Plus if your not getting the Real ID and if you didn't use the same picture 4 years ago. Then they can use the same picture and print it out and mail it to you with out going into the DMV at all. But if you did then you have to go in and renew your picture because by law they need a new picture every 8 years.

My husband and I went last Tuesday and they stopped giving tickets somewhere around noon. However, I would advise you go early in the morning as it all depends on the traffic for that day. Although we got the ticket, our work didn't get done for some technical reason. We went again on Saturday around 9:30am and they were already done giving out tickets.

You need to book an appointment online for the knowledge test and usually the line will not be longer then 45 mins to 1 hour with appointment, but if you are going for the first time to get the 6 point verification then the line is pretty long. It will take a whole day and you need to be there before 5 atleast
