We enjoyed visiting Saturday night. Even though the evening was overcast, they still opened up to answer questions. Eventually they brought out a telescope and we saw Saturn. Summer isn’t the best time to visit - humidity and clouds obscure the view. I look forward to returning in the winter. The visit is free but donations are suggested since they are a nonprofit group.

The volunteers are so friendly and informative! The telescopes they use are phenomenal. This is a great place to bring the whole family on Saturday nights after dark. Make sure you put on bug repelant. But it is an amazing experience to see and learn so much from these knowledgeable folks. We try to get out here as much as time permits and when skies are clear.

This is a phenomenal place to view the stars in an astronomy show it is located in the front of the park behind the office. Check the Markham Park website for times and dates however it normally taken place on Saturday evenings after dark. If you're in the area this is definitely a must visit.

Has to be a super clear night, it can be photographed but hard to see with Naked eye
No, simply because we are officially open only on Saturdays from sunset to midnight, though we often open earlier as weather permits. We do not open for minor or folklore related events, such as the so-called "green Moon" (no, the moon will not turn green!). If a special event warrants opening the observatory, it will be indicated on our recorded line at 954-384-0442 or on our facebook page. Thank you for your question!
You do not have to bring a telescope to Fox. We have a number of instruments available for you to look through. Visitors are more than welcome to bring their own telescopes to Fox if they want to, either for help in setting them up and using them, or for looking at the night sky along with our staff.
