This was a great place to visit when looking for something to do in Jacksonville. I just wish there had been a plaque, as at many other memorials, telling the story of what happened instead of having to look it up online. There is something about the in-person experience of learning the history or being reminded of the history when standing in front of a memorial like that. In any case, it was a hot day when we visited, but between the trees and the breeze, we were comfortable.

I had an opportunity to experience the Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Beirut Memorial as well as the Montford Point (African American Heritage Trail). All three Memorials are at the same location in Jacksonville, NC.

This place is beautiful. There are several memorials and an abundance of information and history in this area. You can easily spend an hour or two wandering around and reading. There is a beautiful water Fountain, as well as a couple of walking trails through the woods. If you play Ingress, this is a prime place. The memorials here easily evoke some strong emotions if you are sensitive to that sort of thing.
