Beautiful Catholic Cathedral honoring St. Francis of Assisi. Great place to stop and say and prayer and lit and candle. Candles are $5.

Street parking, major bus line, paid parking garages. Renovated interior, helpful staff and clergy, confessions daily 11am to noon, gorgeous historical interior frescoes of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, exceptionally fine stained glass windows, clean restroom, and the Porziuncola chapel next door is an exact 7/8 scale replica if the one in Assisi, Italy. For Catholics, there are 4 opportunities per year to obtain Plenary Grace. See the website. Great preaching. Wear your face mask, be respectful, do not bring in food or drinks. It is a sacred worship space, not a museum. Great example of Gold Rush era parish turned national shrine.

In a city named after St Francis of Assisi, a visit to the National Shrine of St Francis makes a lot of sense. It is a beautiful Church, solemn and quiet. There are several statues and altars dedicated to different saints, with a plaquet saying something about wach saint. Thus, to walk around the church can lso be educational. It is close to famed San Francisco sites such as the City Lights Bookstore, Vesuvio Cafe and the Beat Museum, so the church is easy to find.

Absolutely beautiful Catholic church with marble and a clean, uplifting brightness. Fr. Pedro ? is very good at homilies. Confessions are Mon-Sat, 11-12. With a 12:15pm mass.
