This is a great question. The Tile Counsel of North America (the “bible” of all things tile) refers to height differences from tile to tile as “lipage.” The acceptable amount of lipage allowed depends on how much the tile is warped. Most, if not all, man-made porcelain tiles have a slight bow usually right in the middle of the edge. Also, unless a tile is “rectified,” there’s no guantee that the tile is perfectly square, either. So, as you can see, a number of factors can contribute to slight uneven edges, even on a professional installation. Yes, we do tile installation, but typically only tiles that are purchased from our store. It’s easier to warranty and it better protects you, the homeowner. Showers can drastically range in pricing due to their customizable characteristics. We use the premium, lifetime-warranty Schluter system on all our showers now which puts the average shower cost around $6,000-8,000.
