There is always a dog here that just absolutely warms my heart. Consider adoption! My wife and I fostered a dog for over a month who had such an impact on us. We cherished the experience and may do it again in the future! Fostering, volunteering, donating, dog walking, adopting, or even offering your services -- there is a large number of ways that you can help this place out! Please consider helping in whatever way is most comfortable.

I adopted a dog from Lighthouse in Jan, and he is the most loving dog I have ever met. Working with the volunteers at Lighthouse was a great experience, they love all of the animals that come through their doors. They really try to match a dog by best fit and not first come first served- they are honest and up front and want to set everyone up for success. As a rescue, they are patient and kind and do not try to rush anyone into choosing a dog and if it doesn’t work out, Lighthouse will offer advice to help solve the problem or the dog can be returned without any hard feelings. A truly wonderful organization!!!

Lighthouse is one of my favorite shelters around. I have worked with dogs my entire life, and have worked at other shelters myself. And this place does an amazing job with their animals. Not only are they well taken care of and loved by the staff, but are promoted online constantly to get them attention and get them adopted and into a home of their own. I have met many dogs that came from here out in public with their new families and they are SO happy and their families are so in love with them. The staff are so dedicated and care so much about these animals. HIGHLY recommend!

Adopted my Beagle/Harrier mix Jesse (was Duchess) from Lighthouse Animal Shelter 4 years ago. Here is photo of the baby girl. She lives the "good life!" I found Lighthouse to be professional and very concerned about where their dogs were being placed. And thus the reason for my review....she is doing fantastic! She is my absolute best friend and I love her dearly. Thank you so much Lighthouse for bringing her into my life....my little Jesse girl!

Hi Karen, we typically have adults and senior cats in our care. The youngest cat we have at the moment is 1-1.5 years old.
Hello, we're sorry to hear about your loss, we all know how difficult it can be to lose an animal. Yes, we only have dogs and cats available for adoption.
Yes there are many cats
They do a lot of hound and pitbull rescue, so I would check their always updated Facebook page to find the breed and pet you want.
Hi Alexandra, thank you for your interest in working with Lighthouse. We are an all volunteer organization. Information about volunteering can be found on this page of our website: https://www.lighthouseanimalshelter.org/volunteer
While Lighthouse does not have puppies, at times the shelter does have young dogs around one year of age. Our website and FB page usually list the age of each dog available for adoption.
Go to their website and call or email. They're great about getting back in touch.
I don't know about age requirements, a little boy sits with dogs and read to them . I am a dog walker, and I am sure they would love another volunteer. The dogs are great and the volunteers are great
I try to adopt a dog never they call me so i don't recommender there
To work directly with the animals, volunteers must be 18 years old. You can read more about our volunteer opportunities on our website here: https://www.lighthouseanimalshelter.org/vounteer
Hi Christine, We're sorry to hear about Wyatt! I don't think anyone dropped off a cat tonight at our shelter. I will check with other volunteers. What other shelters have you checked with? Forever Paws in Fall River has contracts with local animal control.
Hi Christine, do you mean you are looking for your lost pet? The best bet is to call your local animal control and let them know, in case they have picked up your pet. Also leave a description of your pet with animal shelters in your town and surrounding towns to let them know in case they get an animal in their care who fits the description of the pet you have lost. Whoever you call, leave your name, number, where the pet went missing from, and a description of your pet. It is also a good idea to post on social media, have your friends share with their neighbors, and search for social media groups in your area who post missing pets. For New Bedford, there is a group on facebook called New Bedford Pet Detective which has reunited many families with their pets!
Hi Sammy, we responded to your email but thought we would answer here, too - not sure what notification you will get first! Our facility focuses on adult and senior adoptions but other local animal shelters may have kittens. Thank you for considering a shelter pet!
Hi Linda, we don't get small dogs very often. We suggest filling out our adoption application (which can be found on our website) and getting it on file with us so the next time we have a small dog in our care, we will be able to contact you and let you know. We have one small dog currently but he already has several applicants interested in him.
I cant see why not. My sister in law ownes 2 Pixie Bobcats
He is probably around 45 to 50
Yes, pretty cheap and they are updated on shots plus spayed/neutered.
Shelter can always use more volunteers. Must fill out a volunteer application, and follow any further administrative tasks.
I'm pretty sure you can.
