This place has been an absolute pain in the rear since they stopped accepting cash. Their card readers work inconsistently and their employees are unhelpful when they don’t. This doesn’t need to be this difficult, start accepting more than one form of payment.

That the solid waste center will not accept our country's legal tender is a disgrace. They only want one of three credit card providers that I did not have. The charge was $11.40 for my old 5 cf freezer so I left with it still on my pickup. Things like this encourage people to just dump trash on the side of the road. Before there is an answer as to why. Well there can be no good reason why. This is a government facility for the use by it's citizens. Just because it is easier to do this is contrary to the reason the site exists. Regardless of the site's operators say is the reason it , and their jobs, exists only to serve the public. The current policy does not serve the public. On their website when you to where to dispose of a freezer it directs you to the HEC3 site which is for electronics and will not accept appliances. Added by edit feature. Stopped and bought a Visa prepaid debit card and came back the next day. They said sorry, their credit card machine does not accept those. Looking for an alternative to dumping on side of the road where the County will pick up for free.

Actually you can ether take a battery to a scrap yard if it's automotive as scrap lead and get paid for it. Or there is a used battery guy on 34th st. and 30th ave. North in St Pete. He will pay you $10 per automotive battery. If the battery is a used lithium or whatever else, non lead based. The hazardous waste next door on Frontage road will take it.
