Beautiful area to explore and rare flowers to discover

The shoreline of the preserve doesn't look like much from the Shands Bridge but it is totally beautiful experienced from a kayak or canoe! Also, there are several shallow places that allowed us to get out of our boats and stand up for nice break as well as pic-nic area with a table. The hiking and off road bicycling opportunities here are numerous as well. Lots of long routes can created using adjacent land holdings. Watch out for ticks and yellow flies during the warmer months!

Bigger conservation area is a very nice place not far from the big cities you can have an outdoor experience we're experienced with all the Florida wildlife. Life. If you dare walk into the river and get a little cooled off. If you see my gator call me or text text me I'm looking for him for him. The place is nice and clean the fire pits are clean plenty of wood laying around to have a fire. Be safe have a good time.

Camped overnight at the non waterside camp site. Even for summer the bugs were not bad. Campsite have a table and a fire ring. The trails are not very rugger, they are open and more like forest roads. Saw plenty of deer. Overall I had a great experience and will return.

Yes, it's being watched because BLM has a problem with history 🙄
No. Parking lot is on other side of road from boat ramp
AVTs are not allowed on district lands. Please see our website for a list of recreational activities specific to this property at www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/bayard. For other information about district lands, we invite you to visit www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation.
How much does it cost to get a permit to tent camp
Due to road construction, the district is building a new parking area just east of the current parking lot. Please see our website at www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/announcements for additional information.
There are two camping sites for primitive camping only. You can only stay for 5 or 7 days. Cost is free. The stores are in Green Cove Springs a few miles away. You backpack everything in and out. There is 1 outhouse but it's a half mile from one camping area and 1.5 mile from the river camping area.
Please see our website for details about camping. The district provides primitive camping on some of its properties. www.sjrwmd.com/lands/recreation/camping
