I've been a "Big" for two years and while I was skeptical at first, Dallas from BBBS matched me with a "Little" that I could only describe as a "Little me." My Little reminds me so much of my younger self!!! I've had a positive experience and while my Little has since graduated high school, we still keep in touch. I also want to add that the backgrounds are necessary because unlike many school run mentorship programs, BBBS allows students to communicate with their mentors outside school (i.e. phone and text). There are rules to protect both parties but this is an important difference between BBBS and school run programs were mentors are limited to in person meetings (usually once week) at the school. Both types of programs have their pros and cons but I appreciated getting to know my Little outside the school walls. Plus, teens prefer texts, so we talk more which is great cause I feel like I really know my Little.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Tampa Bay sets an inspiring standard when it comes to mentoring "littles." What a great way for "bigs" to give back to their communities!

Oldest, largest, and best youth mentoring service in the United States. Tampa Bay is Big Brothers Big Sisters country and participating in some of the fundraising events for this agency has been some of the most fun I've had here.

High school students can volunteer in our site-based program and must have reliable transportation to the school or afterschool program where they visit their Little.
