I wish I had gone early. That is great all of the volunteer people.

None of the graduates could read a word, nor could they speak their own name. Some education!

This an amazing organization. Everyone from the puppy raisers to training staff are so committed to the success of the dogs and their vision impaired partners. Once Covid is over go there for a tour!

What a great service they do of helping to provide guide dogs to the blind!

Please call GDA. They serve people from all states free of charge including travel to come to California for training. The one prerequisite I know about is you must have had mobility training. I am a volunteer at GDA and keep learning more and more...and love their culture. I would love to meet you (at meal service and sometimes in the student shop) when you come to California for training!
Cherry Teeter is the coordinator for volunteers go on the website guide dogs of America. Org click on become a volunteer.
Best to call the organization. All I know is that we require that people be mobile and can use a cane. Calling is your best bet. Good luck, I'm so sorry about your trouble and suffering.
Hi Mary, There are 12 accredited guide dog schools around the united states. If they are accredited by IGDF, International Guide Dog Foundation, then you are a legitimate guide dog school.
I have a guid dog from one of your competes. And i am not hapy with theam the dog has cancer so i will need to replac him so i am thinking ofgetting another one but i would like to get.one of yours i dont know if i can
I hope you found your dog. GDA isn't a shelter so they wouldn't be able to help.
"Career change" dogs from GDA is I believe $1000 but there is a long waiting list for them. It is at least 3 years from what I have been told.
Kathy, he said cockaPOO (a dog breed), not cockaTOO (a bird). Eric, I would google for service dog trainers in your area.
