Spaces, between rocks, underground. Nice that you can get so close ( no touching) to the rocks. My tour guide was great. Heavy rains so there was one part of the cave we did not see. I expected a much more kitchy gift shop, but there really was none of that.

Everyone working at Crystal Grotto was so friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a Friday in April and had just missed a tour group, but only waited 15-20 minutes for the next. The caverns were not very busy that afternoon and we were able to have a tour with just 2 other people. The care taken by the team to educate tourists and preserve the caverns is remarkable.

Great history with great guides. Second time being there. Still fun walking through. Crystals are very old. Guides are very well informed. Some walk ways are tight. But you walk into open spaces.

Definitely worth a visit. It costs about $20, and tour takes about 40 minutes. I found the tour to be very informative. My wife and I made it a day trip, visiting nearby Boonsboro for lunch and local shopping, then a visit to the cavern. I'd recommend visiting.

My suggestion would be to get a hotel in Frederick, M.D.. There are MANY hotels in Frederick which is only about a 20 min. drive from the caverns and is a historic city with tons to see and do. If you want clean and cheap Motel 6 on West Patrick St is only about fifty couple dollars a night but there are tons of nicer hotels in Frederick as well. The next best option would be Hagerstown, MD which is probably closer to the caverns but not as nice of a city in my opinion.
I had the same question when I was there. She told me if everyone in the group was OK with it, then yes. But after the tour, I wouldn't recommend bringing a dog down there. It's wet and muddy and cramped in places. I have 2 large dogs, so it would not have worked if I did being them in.
My husband is 6'5" and there was a gentleman taller than him. Both made it fine.
They are open,until 4 pm I think weekends only don't really remember,the last tour is at 3 30, inside they usually want only 6-8 people,also u can buy the tickets from inside I believe it's 20$ per person
I was just there about a week ago. The girl I had for a guide was very knowledgeable & able to point out & identify everything well. There is a gift shop I believe, but it is/was temporarily closed when I was there. It's about a 30 min tour & they heavily emphasize NO TOUCHING anything inside the caves. $20 per person, mask & gloves required.
Yes, they have some gemstone type souvenirs and a few jewelry items but nothing extensive.
The cave is 54° all year it’s great to do anytime we are open 11 to 4 on Saturdays and Sundays now with our winter schedule it’s $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 12 to go through and it takes 35 minutes
No, there are some very tight spaces that I don't believe a wheelchair would be able to fit
I don't think so ,it's a long cave, cold ,damp ,and you can not touch anything
$ 20 per person
Hi Jo Ann! Crystal Grottoes is open daily, the admission price is $20 for adults and $10 for children 11 and younger. There is a set of full stairs at the entrance to the cave system, as well as a couple spots where there are a few stairs. The caves are gorgeous, it is one of the most authentic caving experiences I have had. That being said, the cave is not as easy to traverse as, say, Luray Caverns. Crystal Grottoes is still being explored, and has been left in as natural a state as possible. There are some tight walkways, sloping floors, and low ceilings. At no point do you have to crawl, just mind your head. It is absolutely worth the rough edges to see the pristine formations.
I was there at the end of August of this year and it was $40 for two of us (two adults) for a tour of roughly 25-30m.
