This place is perfect for a day or overnight getaway, but I cannot stand the flies. The only respite from them is being out in the middle of the water, but hanging on the shore can be miserable. Come prepared.

The lake and staff are very friendly. Unfortunately, their online booking and cancellation is trash, boarding on a scam. I made a reservation for a camping site months in advance knowing that they charge a $15 cancellation fee if cancelled 14 days early. About 6 wks before my reservation, a need came up and I had to cancel. I contacted the staff to move the reservation to another date, but nothing was available, so I attempted to cancel. I was directed to their site's cancellation page (can't do it from the phone with a live human because.....) and I submitted my request. I received no response or confirmation email of the request, so the week before I emailed them to inquire why my refund (minus the ridiculous $15 fee) had never posted. At this point, they replied same day, cancelled my site, and said I would only receive a refund if the cancellation was 2 wks before the reservation (which it wasn't). I replied and said I didn't want the reservation cancelled if I was going to be charged for the full amount and that email was never acknowledged. Plans change and these folks not only don't seem to care - they seem to use it to their benefit. My guess is they re-rented my site for another $95 and pocketed my money. That's gross business practice.

Great view, awful place in total. Super expensive for a camping spot $50/night and the second night we were there, huge group at the lake had a party until 2 AM. Quiet hours are as of 10 PM. Went to the front desk the next morning, they couldn’t have cared less. My favorite was that the “night guard” stops his shift at 9.45 PM. So if you are looking for a rip-off with no service and a place to have a loud party, this is it. If you actually want to relax and enjoy the place….keep looking!

I have been camping at Wellington Lake with my family and friends for almost 30 years. It continues to be part of our yearly camping plans. Beautiful sites, quiet, nostalgic, memorable. One complaint- I can say that Park County road 68 is …

You do have to reserve them. Hard to get in the summer, unless you pay extra.
