I went to the San Francisco Consulate for Schengen Visa. Google Reviews helped me in getting an appointment by mentioning that new slots open at midnight Berlin time i.e. 3 PM PT. I got the slot 22 days in the future. On the day of the appointment, make sure to reach on time. The security guard lady asked me to wait outside as I was early and allowed me to enter the premise 15 mins before my appointment time. The security staff was courteous. They checked my bag and stored my phone in a locker. I went to the reception and was asked to wait until they are ready for me. I had to wait for some 20 minutes before they asked me to go to another room for the appointment. The lady checked all my documents and made sure they are in order. I chose FedEx Overnight for $26 to deliver my passport back to my home. They have a Photo kiosk that clicks photos in the required format for $5. I had my passport delivered to my house within 3 days. Overall I had an awesome experience with the San Francisco German Consulate.

I am in an urgent situation. Tried to call and they have an option for acute emergencies „dial 0“, but then you hear. „Our front desk is currently busy, please try again later“. I am a German citizen and feel ashamed and abandoned.

Trying to get a hold of someone there is nearly impossible, wanted to renew my passport but don’t have all the required documents, send an email 3 times but nobody is getting back to me. Trying to call doesn’t help they just send you to there website. Tried to call on a Wed. at 3pm and the recording is telling me im calling outside there business hours (8am- 4pm), what a joke.

The security and scheduling mechanisms make sense and the entire procedure is dignified and efficient. The only wobble is that appointments are very hard to come by. One has to schedule at midnight German time (15:00 Pacific) to get any appointments weeks ahead. The capacity of the consulate is way below demand.

If you want to transfer your US driver's license to a German driver's license this could be challenging. If you are a resident of any West or East Coast State the license will not be transferred unless you take the written driver's in Germany. There are a few States in the USA that qualify for an easy, automatic driver's license transfer. Here is the list with full reciprocity.. no test required. Alabama Arizona Arkansas Colorado Delaware Idaho Illinois Iowa Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Maryland Massachusetts Michigan New Mexico Ohio Oklahoma Pennsylvania South Carolina South Dakota Texas Utah Virginia West Virginia Washington (state) Wisconsin Wyoming Puerto Rico
This is not a question for the German consulate, but for the US authorities. As far as I know, German citizens can enter the USA without a visa (via ESTA), so no one cares whether a return flight has been booked.
Or try calling them as soon asthey open between 8-11.
I don't think anyone has ever tried... but introducing Germany to the Tamale is surely a worthy quest.
You require an official reason for the visit and legitimate proof of it. Hanging out with each other doesn't count as a reason and a handwritten note doesn't count as proof. After you provide proof and get a travel release from the consulate, you will need the negative test results from a covid test date no more than 48 hours prior to your departure. You will then need a negative test upon arrival and will undergo a 14 day quarantine.
The consulate now has a photo booth (as of September 2020).
yes you go to ..... register your new place of residence and find out where you can change your name
These guys have horrible customer service. Try to communicate with them via email first. I went there during regular office hours to renew my passport, and they would not even let me in without appointment.
No
Try waiting until just after midnight German time
Afaik, each day they release the interview time around 3 pm pst. Or midnight time in Germany. Try to take one as soon as they are available
You need to log in at 3 and try frantically to book an appointment within 5 minutes before they all get taken.
The German embassy is extremely quick in replying to queries, send them an email and they will revert back quickly
Are you asking about a Germany visa (Schengen visa) or Germany transit visa? You need to book an appointment and take all the documents with you listed on the application
If you are vaccinated it's not required

I would ask the Road Traffic Office Wiesbaden directly
Yes. Provide all the proof to the consulate and receive permission to travel.
If I don't have German citizenship, could I still try to do it through the Consulate?
I called first thing when they opened up. The lady was very helpful. I got through the second day I tried
You can renew your passport at the consulate.
You should let the consulate know.
Yes, transit is always possible.
I'd recommend emailing or calling the consulate directly on this. They're very responsive and helpful. As a citizen, you should be able to return to Germany but best to check directly with them for more accurate info.
I advise to consult with local authorities directly. Birth records are not handled by embassies.
If she do not plan to go out of the Munich airport then she doesn't need transit visa.
US citizens do not need a visa
I'm so sorry for your loss. If you already filled out the passport renewal application and paid the fee, then all you can do is wait for it to come either in the mail or at the consulate (whichever option you selected when you renewed it). If you selected by mail, you usually don't have to wait too long. In addition to acquiring your passport you may have to take extra steps, however I don't know your status (dual citizenship, green card, etc.). So make sure you have what you need to reenter the US.
My understanding is (I'm assuming your citizenship is with Germany) so long as your German passport is up to date, you don't require a Visa to enter Germany. To reenter the US, make sure your green card is up to date.
Obviosly make the appointment first. To get the documents for the appointment, you should check what you need to bring to prove citizenship, etc. The additional forms to fill out for the consulate are on the website. You can submit forms online rather than printing them out, but try to be extra prepared- and do both. Make sure you get passport photos taken beforehand and have a copy of it with you at your appointment.
Yes, she does.
I highly recommend their website germany.info Within Consular Services most requirements are explained.
Yes definitely. Call the consulate.
4-6 weeks if I recall correctly
If you have fingerprint taken with last 5 years, you are able to do mail in application.
Yes, it matters which consulate you go to. You can not go to just any consulate, they will refuse to help you if you live outside their jurisdiction.
Transiting through an international airport on an international layover does not take you through customs or passport check until you reach your destination. You'll stay inside security in the international terminal to reach your connecting flight.

I would recommend contacting them and explaining your situation here https://www.germany.info/us-en/embassy-consulates/san-francisco/contact-san-francisco
@raghu Krishnan is white background OK? I took the photo from Costco and they have only white background.

Call your airline for advice to make sure, but I think you'll be fine. I don't think they'll care about your US visa until your trip back, just your Indian passport.

Follow the details on their website here https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/05-VisaEinreise/schengen-visa/963538
Unfortunately they are quite over worked and don't seem to respond to phone calls. Their email address does seem to get a response. So you could try that. It's on their website
Questions German consulate does not get these questions. Please contact embassy directly.
I think that there’s some weird thing with having to have German lineage or something but I would look at the German governments website
Best is to go to www.germany.info/us-en/embassy-consulates there you'll get all your answers.
Who is you asking me such a question like that???
All you need to do is download the passport application. All necessary documents are also listed on the consulate's website (sanfrancisco.diplo.de)
How soon did you request for an appointment?
You need to call. Number is on their website
Yes you can get a new passport there. The requirements are very detailed and u should check there website and u have to make an appointment. The waiting time was rediculas 5 months. It was not a good experience.
