I'm blown away reading the reviews of this place. Most of the former tenants who moved out already, should connect and speak with an attorney. The responses from the community manager, are the same bs any poor performing business responds with when they are effing up. From big corporations down to apartment management. Y'all just make a blanket statement saying everything they complained about, is your top priority... But clearly CLEARLY, it is NOT your top priority, because if it was, there would not be ongoing detailed complaints about the same stuff over and over.

I stayed there for 12 months and that was the worst stay of my life, the train track is right behind the apartment complex so you will hear a very loud horn every hour, There Office is closed due to Covid and they never answer calls emails response so if you have a question no luck, your Packages will be missing of you don’t pick it within 10 minutes of delivery. There maintenance team was doing painting and messed up our new furniture with paint and they never resolved our concern even they responded to my email said we will have the maintenance team reimbursed you, they left paint on there carpet and then charged us 570 after we left the apartment, and there’s no way of getting hold of them to ask why you charging us even we left there place in a good condition.

We lived at Essex for 1 year, and are happy to be leaving. Its very much not worth the price. Positives - Inside of our apartment was nice. There's a pool and hot tub and it's nice to have people over. Maintenance is pretty good about fixing things in the apartment. Negatives - there are a lot unfortunately- - Theft - it's a huge issue. We have had 60 items stolen during our stay while being delivered and we are very on top of checking. They get thrown in the main hallway. Essex, you need to build a dedicated mailroom, not the hallway right by the main doorway for the property. I have personally called all the mail services but there is only so much they can do. - No guest parking inside of gate. There's so many empty spots inside the parking structure. The street would be fine but Emeryville is notorious for break ins and our guests have gotten broken into more than once. - Trash - There are not enough trash and recycling areas so trash gets left in common areas and the smell can be OVERWHELMING. It's reached inside our house more than once. - There is no management at the property anymore. I understand things are going remote but they don't answer the phone half the time and it's hard to get a hold of anyone. Its extremely frustrating to not be able to speak to anyone. - Downplayed how loud the train is. It blares very loud late at night meaning we can't have the windows open. It comes quite often. Overall, while the inside apartment is nice, everything associated with the place is not.

Apartment was fine. Not worth the cost though. Appliance are okay, sink outdated, and bathrooms need to be re-caulked. Hallways are dirty. Trash is constantly overfilling and left in walkways to trip on. When you move out be prepared to not get your deposit back (I've never not received my entire deposit back until this place) and owe them money. Most costs were normal wear and tear and painting. I'm a super clean person with no animals. I cleaned everything and vacuumed before I left. I lost over $600 and then had to pay them almost another $200. If you don't pay them when they want they will attack you by threatening to make it hard for you to rent again and send to claims to attack your credit. Don't expect much from this large money hungry company. I'd recommend never renting with Essex. ✌️
