Elena is one of the most intelligent and professional agents I've ever encountered. I referred dear friends to her that needed to renovate and sell a family home. She developed a process whereby she managed everything from design, sourcing, hiring/managing/paying trades, staging, listing, marketing and ultimately selling the home in record time for top dollar. Her attention to detail, and management of the entire process seemed effortless, though having managed my own projects, I know how cumbersome and tedious it can be. Elena's knowledge of the market, its tendencies and sales strategies are second to none.

My friend recommended Elena when I was in a need of an agent to make an offer on the apartment I liked. She jumped right in and we had an offer ready within a couple of days. We didn’t win that one and had to look a bit more. She was available to show me properties whenever needed and answered all my newbie questions in detail and with patience. Finally we did find a property that I liked, made an offer and won. Elena supported me though the whole process and made the experience as pleasant as possible throughout all the stages.

Elena is wonderful. She knows what she’s doing and is great at her job. I trust her and she has her clients’ best interest at heart, sharing her thoughts and being genuine throughout. In this crazy market, Elena would make herself available to tour any home with me within a day or two. She got an offer together for me under a strict deadline, and I ended up getting a home in the exact location I wanted in a very competitive market. Elena’s extremely responsive and professional and gives solid advice. I would love to work with her again in the future.

As first-time home buyers, we were extremely lucky to work with Elena! In our first 10 minutes of our first meeting we knew we are dealing with a top-level professional who has our best interest at heart. Elena was extremely helpful and patient throughout the process, always providing all the necessary information, always responding fast to our calls and messages, always ready to answer any questions and address any concerns. For every property we were seeing, we were immediately able to see a much broader picture, not only the property itself — Elena would quickly add a ton of relevant information, all thanks to her vast experience and knowledge of East Bay cities and neighborhoods, school districts, shopping centers, etc. While looking at homes, she would always point out important things to consider, be it noise levels, parts of the house that definitely needed renovation or something else — things that we wouldn’t think of on our own! Elena did a great job guiding us through all the steps of the process, and helping us become happy homeowners! We highly recommend Elena for any East Bay real estate business!

Questions & Answers

Do I need to stage my home?

Jane Johnson | Feb 5, 2022
Elena Mendelson, MBA REALTOR®️ with Compass | Feb 5, 2022

The goal is to make your home as appealing as possible to the most potential buyers, before photos of your home are taken. Staging your home can include anything from redecorating to rearranging furniture, cleaning or other aesthetic strategies to present the home in the best possible light. You can do it yourself, have your real estate agent guide you, or hire a professional stager.

Who pays for a home inspection?

In most cases, the buyer pays for the home inspection.

What does selling a home ‘as-is’ mean?

Jane Johnson | Feb 5, 2022
Elena Mendelson, MBA REALTOR®️ with Compass | Feb 5, 2022

If someone is selling a home that needs repairs - yet chooses not to fix them - they may choose to list a property as-is. Disclosures and inspections are typical steps in the process. In an as-is sale, a buyer is willingly purchasing the home in its current state with full knowledge of its condition.

What is disclosure?

When selling a property, it is incumbent upon the seller to disclose any details about the home that might negatively affect its value.

How long will it take to sell my home?

Elena Mendelson, MBA REALTOR®️ with Compass | Feb 5, 2022

Factors such as the time of year and market conditions play a big role in how quickly a property sells. How you price, market and stage your home are also very important variables that will affect how long a home remains on the market.

What needs to stay when I sell my home?

Jane Johnson | Feb 5, 2022
Elena Mendelson, MBA REALTOR®️ with Compass | Feb 5, 2022

Any fixture that is ‘attached’ or built into the house typically remains. For example, if your house has built-in bookshelves, they typically stay with the house. The same is true of kitchen or bathroom fixtures, and fireplaces. Exceptions and details can be discussed during the negotiation process.

What is an appraisal for when I buy a house?

Jane Johnson | Feb 5, 2022
Elena Mendelson, MBA REALTOR®️ with Compass | Feb 5, 2022

A professional appraiser will inspect a property and compare it to other similar homes in the area. From there, a fair market value is determined. Unless you plan on paying all cash for a property, you will likely need a home appraisal.

Sharing particular information when connecting with a real estate agent can help give you an idea of your home’s value in today’s market. The in-person expertise of a real estate agent will give you a more accurate opinion of your home’s value.
