Had dinner tonight here. Haven't been here in a few years. While the meal was reasonable (cost), overall I would have given the food 3.5 stars. I ended up giving 4-stars because of my waitress. She had more than 7+ tables while I was there and she was great. Their food is just OK. I had the patty-melt and fries. I also ordered a side salad. They didn't have oil & vinegar dressing, however(?). The sandwich was big but the patty was "rare" (which was OK for me because I like it that way), but most folks would have sent it back because you "should" have your hamburger patties cooked (at least) medium (I did not specify how I wanted the burger). Fries were soggy but tasty. The salad was small but it was typical for a side. One of the cucumber slices had a "spoiled" spot on it, so I left it. I also ordered plain iced tea, which was brewed and it was OK (had lots of tea-sediment). This place is a step better than Denny's but not nearly as good as "Normans" (just down the street on CV Blvd.). But Normans isn't open for dinner at all (which is a shame). Because their patty melts are the best in CV. I can't see myself having dinner at 3pm? I did not have any pie. Two patrons next to me said the pie was very good but they were disappointed about the size of the slice they got, considering the cost.

Their location is on a busy corner in Castro Valley and parking would be best inside the shopping center lot. Inside, it looks like a diner with the original decor from its historical past. Too bad they were out of their famous Oregon Pie so I ended up getting the chocolate one as suggested. I was told that it was going to be rich and dense, but I think otherwise.

I used to like them. They we're really good before but they have two new cooks, the food took a while, the coffee was mediocre, the toast was stale and my stomach actually hurts after eating. The waitress is really trying hard but they are limited. So very disappointed. A lot of elderly eat here and they seem disorganized. I would never eat here again. The place has old dirty walls, ceilings and floors and I felt like I was getting bit almost every other minute. This place use to have really great coffee, food and service but it seemed like certain people that came in the waitresses would show favoritism too. You need Chef Ramsey to come in and turn this place around and a serious deep inspection.

We were seated right away but handed sticky menus and discovered the table was sticky too. The food was okay but nothing to write home about. We will not be returning as there are so many other choices. Servers were attentive and asked us 3 times if we needed anything. They they took our plates after asking twice if we were done so we finished our breakfast as they pressured us to be done.
