We love this route from NJ to Burlington! Taking 87 all the way up seems quicker and then a quaint ferry ride puts us 30 mins from downtown Burlington.

Fun way across the lake. Pay at the booth when you arrive (was $15 for 2 people in a Jeep), and pull forward into the lane they tell you. It’s one ferry that makes 30 min trips across the lake. Ferry was on time. Crew unloaded cars quickly and efficiently then loaded up the next trip. Once on the ferry, you can walk around on the boat (go to the middle deck for some nice views). The crew is very friendly and professional.

Landed here on accident after missing an exit for Vermont. Super nice people, and excellent ride across! Loved this little area and the ferry!

Every half hour
Go to ferries.com for all that information
There are a few fun little shops and at least one restaurant and ice cream shop.
Not much in Charlotte. The teddy bear factory is north in Shelburne. A little further north is the Shelburne Museum. Truly one on the best museums of Americana in the country and well worth the trip.
Open every day except for very weird weather days like high winds. Check Lake Champlain Transit website at Ferries.com for hours. On rare occasion they might be closed site will tell you. I commute weekly from NY to home in VT using Ferry. Excellent inexpensive way to travel across lake. About half hour driving break with an available rest room stop. Check website.
Not this particular ferry. It only travels back and forth between Essex, NY and Charlotte, VT.
Right now they are running every half hour between essex and charlotte and then once an hour after 5:00. Last ferry out of NY is 8:30, last one out of VT is 8:00pm.
