Amazing place! Tons of shops (they close early off-season, plan accordingly!), tons of restaurants, dessert places, and everywhere you look is picturesque!! Love this area

Lovely historic downtown Venice is a short, relaxing walk with quaint shops, colorful murals and statues for fantastic photo-ops!

Shops were great. So many shops to see. Food everywhere. Nice folks. Had drinks and spent money. Had fun. Art work at every street corner.

We were shopping here this afternoon. There was a woman buying a wood vase with a glass cylinder in the middle. The clerk dropped the glass cylinder shattering it all over the floor. The owner came out of the back and was very upset. The customer asked her to discount it because she still liked the wood vase. The owner said I’ll just take it home. It’s one of a kind. So the customer said she would still buy it at full price but thought that was terrible. We agreed & left the store. No way we are shopping here again!

Fly to Sarasota... 25 minute drive to Venice
Hi John, our information kiosk in Centennial Park is open Tuesdays-Saturdays 11am-2pm; our Venice MainStreet office at 101 W. Venice Ave. Suite 23 is open M-F 9am-5pm. There are lots of great choices in downtown Venice. Breakfast and/or coffee and baked goods are available at Abby's on Miami, Burgundy Square Cafe (on Miami Ave. West), Croissant & Co. (on West Venice Ave.), Island Organics (on Miami Ave. West), Seed & Bean Market (on West Venice Ave.), Upper Crust Bakery & Cafe (on West Venice Ave.), Venice Island Coffee Cafe (on Miami Ave. West), and Venice Wine & Coffee Co. (on West Venice Ave.). For a directory, please go to https://www.visitvenicefl.org/places/category/dining-and-beverages/.
The central avenue in downtown Venice, Florida is West Venice Avenue but the entire historic downtown district is comprised of East Venice Avenue to US 41 Bypass; West Venice Avenue to Harbor Drive; Miami Avenue (east and west); Tampa Avenue (east and west); and a portion of Nokomis Avenue and Nassau Street. To view a map of the designated historic district, please visit https://www.visitvenicefl.org/our-mission-and-district/.
Downtown venice is a neat place
The City of Venice has permitted Venice MainStreet, Inc. to do tightly restricted concerts at the gazebo that are ticketed events for a particular amount of people within a roped off area. Masks are required within the space and groups of 6 or less are spaced 6 feet apart. For more information please visit https://www.visitvenicefl.org/friday-night-concert-series-2020-2021/. Some live music on the sidewalks has happened during Venice MainStreet's shopping promotions for the downtown district, such as Shoptember, Classic Evenings on the Avenue, and the Christmas Walk. You can contact the City of Venice Municipal Government directly to find out if they are permitting any other musicians at the gazebo (941-846-2626).
It is a great place to visit year-round. The winter months (November-March) are the most popular due to the beautiful weather. Shops are open later and there are more events. The trade off is there are more people visiting during the peak of season. The summer months are quieter but the temperatures can be in the high 80s to low 90s. October and April are cooler months and are just at the beginning and end of the peak season, so that's a good time to be here.
Thank you for asking! Venice MainStreet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community by preserving, protecting and promoting Historic Downtown Venice. Our organization was designated a Florida Main Street Community in 1988 and we have remained a part of the Florida Main Street program since then, as well as being an accredited member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's MainStreet America program. You can learn more about our organization by reviewing our website at www.VisitVeniceFL.org.
I would think that a car would be a necessity in order to get downtown, even if you purchase a residence on the island. It is a lovely town but I'm sure you would want to rent something for a while before deciding to jump in with both feet. Punta Gorda is similar in that one car and a pair of hood walking shoes is all that's needed.
We camped st Oscar Scherer State Park.
I have no idea. Sorry
Hi Debra! The stores are all individually owned and therefore hold different hours. However the weekend before Christmas many will be open Saturday 10-6 or 7pm and Sunday 10-5pm. Thank you for supporting downtown!
