This hospital post covid is simply shocking. Everyone needs to realize, this hospital DOES not allow you to accompany your loved one into the ER. They have a strict no visitor policy. Even an older couple, was split up at the door, despite this older gentleman relying on his wife to simply walk. To make matters worse, they DO NOT TREAT YOU UNLESS YOU MEET CERTAIN CRITERIAS. The patient came in with severe back pain that has lasted 2 weeks, legs and arms numb, barely able to walk, and pain killers was all they offered, because, any diagnostic treatment is a waste of resources unless you've been in a physical accident. I've heard this hospital will be closing, it's probably best. I've never seen a hospital like this, I don't like leaving negative reviews like this, but people need to know, this is not the hospital you might remember.

If I can give 0 stars for what happened to my 83 year old Dad I would. Shout out to the great nurses who work here. Not so great for the staff at the front desk and security or to the communication to the family. I had been up to see my Dad and the next day was told that my booster was more than 6 months old. I went across the street and got an additional booster. My sister who had been up there previously also was told she could not go in without a booster, so we both got boosters right across the street. It would not be so bad, if the policy was the same every day and enforced. My Dad's dementia became worse. He was checked in on Father's day and when they decided he was well enough to be released this past weekend, they advised he had tested positive for Covid. Previously, we had been advised that it was a hospital staff person who he had been exposed to. After putting the signs up on the room they proceeded to test him again and it was negative. A third test was also negative, so at my Mom's encouragement, they removed the signage. During this time frame the staff was also suggesting that they just take Dad home, but not providing any guidance or assistance in a care management plan. The next day my Mom and Sister could not go up due to the ONE Covid test that was positive. Gratefully, Cheri, the Palliative Care Nurse spoke to whomever was in charge and advised that due to his altered state, family is what keeps him calm and less agitated. We still did not receive any clarity on how many covid tests they administer, 1 out of 3, etc...(rapid or PCR). No one really knows the policy. My mom and sister were finally able to come up to the room July 5th and at that point were advised that Dad would need to wait the 10 days as required by the skilled nursing facility before he would be transitioned. Magically, later staff advised that he would be moved to the skilled nursing facility. What they did not tell my family was: 1. He would be in a Covid unit (despite testing negative twice and being asymptomatic) 2. That he would be ISOLATED. 3. There would be NO VISITATION. My 82-year old Mom was at his bedside every day during visiting hours at the hospital. NO ONE told us that this would be the policy going to the skilled nursing facility. Dad's dementia worsened whenever he was isolated. After Dad was transported to the nursing facility, mom received a call from the staff advising that Dad was leaving the building. They asked if he had an altered mental state. (WHY WAS THAT INFORMATION NOT PASSED TO THEM FROM SAINT MARY'S, SINCE HE HAD SOMEONE AT HIS BEDSIDE EVERY DAY). The staff person also stated "WE DO NOT HAVE THE STAFF TO KEEP HIM SAFE". Their is a dark alley outside the door, and unfortunately, Dad had already walked out twice. When my Mom questioned what they recommended, they could not give any advice, and when Mom stated that taking him home was against Dr's orders that also fell on deaf ears. BOTTOM LINE: Mom took DAD home with NO SAFETY PLAN or medications, because she felt she had no choice and the facility stated they could not keep him safe. THIS IS A REFLECTION ON ST. MARY MEDICAL CENTER NOT MAKING SURE THAT THE DISCHARGE PLAN WAS SAFE AND THAT ACCURATE COMMUNICATION WAS RELAYED.

Nine hours of waiting for a medical bed is unacceptable! We need a new hospital in Apple Valley. St. Mary’s is simply outdated and run-down.

WORST HOSPITAL STAY AWAY WAITED A TOTAL OF 3 hours for doctor to see patient and another 3 hours for test results another 3 hours for to finally get medication for pain. AFTER 6 Hours a patient RECEIVE MEDICATION ITS RIDICULOUS!!!! The nurses are rude and have the worst attitude!!! Staff try their best but for a hospital it is crazy madness here if you want a trip totaling 8 + hours come here if not STAY AWAY

The V.A has certain hospitals that they're contracted with. But, the V.A will normally cover any hospital you get service from also the VA has a special medical card for emergency care. Ask your VA rep , case worker or the VBA.
