Wills Creek winds through this area and beside it is one of the most famous and scenic stretches of railroad in America. The grade between Hyndman and Calimont Pennsylvania is known as the Sand Patch Grade and has been photographed and videotaped by thousand of railfans. Check out Sand Patch Grade on YouTube I have included photos I took from a trip I was able to make over the Sand Patch Grade back in the late seventies. I was able to ride in the cab of a B&O deisel locomotive as my cosin was affiliated with the railroad which is now owned and operated as part of the CXS System. The Sand Patch Tunnel is located at the culmination of the grade which then descends into Myersdale, Pennsylvania.
