Great place to camp! Devils punch bowl was fun to jump in! The happy gnomes welcomed us when we got there! The trees seemed to be alive, and marched down the mountains toward us! It was pretty amazing!

A nice campground only about a 30 minute drive from Aspen, but it's first come first served so it's hard to get a spot. Also an avalanche came through and so 4 of the 6 sites don't have many trees. Great place if you can get a site though because the stream is right there.

Stayed at campsite 21 out of the 22 for a few nights. It was very spacious, enough rocks and trees to keep you hidden from the road and plenty of level ground to set up a tent.

We visited in July 2019. There are 22 free sites, bear lockers are at many of the sites (maybe not all though?), there are vaulted toilets at the head campground but not at/near the sites and of course there is no cell service. the sites are spread out the first 4 or 5 miles of the road to the portal campground. The road was okay for 2wd for about the first half but I image that could change if it was wet. I would recommend having SUV or better ground clearance if you plan on going very far down the road.
