With such large opportunity for adventures of salt and sun on so small a strip of sand, you might think Provincetown forgoes the continental trapping of a cinema. Since 1917, this has thankfully not been the case! Neatly placed on the second floor of the Whaler’s Wharf Marketplace, Water’s Edge Cinema offers two screens “dedicated to raising the disenfranchised voice” in support of the Provincetown Film Society. I was lucky to take part in a group rental of the cinema offered for under $200 during its general closure for the COVID pandemic. The simple opportunity to go out for a movie and popcorn bestowed a hopeful warmth greatly appreciated by participants. Provincetown exists because of adaptability, and Water’s Edge Cinema has certainly embodied this as a compact alternative to big chain theaters. If any of my infamous opinions above were useful, interesting, or funny, please consider taking one of my tours or becoming a true follower @americanjesabel!

Great cinema experience. Saw first run film in casual but comfortable environment. Great seats, intimate theatre space and convenient location in Provincetown.

The theater is fine - don’t expect normal theater seats but for the town, sure - fine. The one star review is for the terrible service. I am a graduate student, and I asked for their listed student price (I have my student id, too), but apparently that’s for high school students only, which by the way is absurd because I’m willing to bet the vast majority of high school students visiting here have more money than the vast majority of grad students in town, likely hemorrhaging money at the fine arts center. This is the only theater I’ve been where I have been unable to use the student discount.

An interesting selection of films not usually available in the larger commercial movie theaters. A little pricey but the money is used to keep the theater active; worth the investment. Small rooms. I gave 4 stars only because I can at times hear talking from the lobby or sounds from another movie playing. It doesn't enter as a factor when I go though because I have seen a number of wonderful films and documentaries here that I would not have seen any where else in my area.
