This hospital, in short, is a premiere example of employees (here being health care workers) not being responsible enough to take charge, own up, and make practical decisions based on an individual patient-by-patient experice. I had a recent stay here and for the most part, nearly every worker, whether it be a nurse, NP, technician, assistant, doctor, or whatever, did not treat me in a way that a "RL" (real life, for older gents and ladies like myself) person should be treated. It seems that the hospital has been swallowed up in the "woke" and overly PC culture that is prevalent now, as it being. I received no concrete and refined information from virtually anyone working with my case, only after repeating my case ad nauseam did I receive any sort of information that was helpful to me in determining my prognosis. A disgusting side note would be: as I laid there with open wounds on my feet, being exposed to whatever unfiltered/(potentially)covid-filled air that was circulating in the ER, I witnessed other patients that were in obvious agony, be ignored by the freshly-baked nursing staff rotating blindly around the ER. And, to top it off, most of the staff, in between their failed attempts at patronizing the other patients, were seen laughing, chatting, congregating, and behaving as people would in a high school hallway. I'll finish up by saying: if you have any choice in where you should go to be treated (if possible, after you waited 2 minutes after dialing 911 while the "answering service" did whatever the hell they do to make the actual 911 call), say "no not the hospital near lake ave), please". If you can, that is. The few people that were down-to-earth enough to talk to me in a way a respectful person should be are: Glorinette (spelling may be wrong!) E. Rebecca (?), the person replaced Glorinette's, after her shift was over. Sarah E., and EMT. and the other EMT working with her. (both hailing from Newton and Wellesly, respectfully). That is all there is. Thank you for reading (also, please excuse the redundant repost of this on other google maps entries for UMASS memorial in Worcester, by Lake Ave, as I am unsure which one is the correct one).

My husband was rushed in after falling from a roof at work. To start; The ER nurse & doctor were AMAZING. The doctor was SO personable and empathetic. The nurse was so attentive to my husbands pain & wellbeing. My husband wasn’t even back from X-ray yet and the surgery team was down in his ER room waiting / talking to me about the emergency surgery my husband needed. They answered all 9372626363849 of my questions with smiles on their faces. The next day I was told to visit my husband at 11am .. I tried. There was a disconnect on his surgery time somewhere & I was told just to hang tight. So I waited and checked in with patient information hourly. I wish I knew her name but the woman at the patient information desk was SO INCREDIBLE. I felt like a pain because I kept going up asking for an update every hour but she assured me that I wasn’t a pain at all. She supported me through my 83736373 mental breakdowns while I was in the unknown of my husbands status. She was so incredible. The only reason my review isn’t a 5 star is the surgeon that actually performed the surgery didn’t communicate at all. No call after he was out of surgery. Nothing. I still actually don’t know what the surgery my husband had entailed because the surgeon did not call and the nurse said the surgeon would be the one to review what happened during surgery with me. The nurse did however tell me that tomorrow when I go to visit she will personally call the surgeon down to get me answers. Honestly; if it weren’t for the ER doctor being so open, honest & compassionate, the ER nurse being so attentive , the patient information rep being so helpful & supportive & the post op nurse being so great I would not have gotten through this. Thank you all so much

Rooms are dirty. We had a few nurses on the pediatric floor that were awesome! Other then that they were not friendly, abrupt and slow to respond to needs. Also if there is an issue with an IV the hospital doesn’t have a pediatric staff person who is equipped to put an IV in a dehydrated child. My child had to go the entire night not receiving her fluids, antibiotics and pain meds. Instead she was traumatized further by having to give her shots for pain. We will never be returning to this hospital again! Also while staying her for 8 days we got sick. This has been a traumatic stay for my daughter and myself. I would suggest going into Boston for children emergencies.

I’d like to take the time to comment about the poor customer service, specifically from David Fitzpatrick who was at the information desk. This man is hands down the most miserable person I have ever spoken to. Guy was mistreating and demeaning to everybody, including me and my family. I have visited the ICU today with the purpose of seeing my grandmother. Myself and my family member approached this man and from the Get go, was huffing and puffing, rolling his eyes at other guests etc. We were clarifying with him the ‘Covid protocols’ as they change every day with this hospital. Multiple family members were allowed up one day last week, yesterday it was two and today was 1. This man spoke in the most demeaning tone, called the ICU Unit to tell them we were here, meanwhile whoever was talking to him on the other line missed the performance he gave us when he was sighing and throwing his hands up in what I assume could be an adult temper tantrum. When my family member who came from the ICU came downstairs, we headed back into the line to retrieve the visitors sticker. Mr David Fitzpatrick swivels around his chair and again is seen throwing his arms into the air rolling his eyes. I don’t know if this guy gets off on being miserable or perhaps he is lonely and taking his martial frustrations out on guests but I quite frankly did not appreciate how tone deaf this man was. He is very lucky I have thick skin because there are other guests who are grieving as well and taking care of sick family and the last thing they need is to approach David Fitzpatrick and his atrocious attitude. Find a new job or quit complaining. You are not fit to deal with the public.

Please HELP. What is patient outreach at UMASS Memorial hospital? Good or bad health care? Patients Outreach programs?

UMass Memorial is a well renowned teaching hospital that has really excellent specialists in fields like cardiology, infectious disease, and Nuerology. That being said, due to Covid and the general state of this countries Healthcare system they seem chronically understaffed and the quality of care provided during admission is sub par in my opinion. During a family members most recent admission I noticed a disturbing theme of serious bias and stereotyping of individuals who have a history of mental health or substance abuse issues to the point that the providers attitude and generalizations interfere with the quality of care provided to the patient including limited communication, restricted treatment options, and overall mistrust between patient and provider which is a huge issue. In this day and age where the Healthcare community is working so hard to end stigma and break down barriers to care this trend was seriously concerning and disappointing.

If you use GPS please put 55 Lake Ave North, Worcester MA. It will bring you to the Remillard Family Pavillion building which is the main hospital or University Campus. Once you pass the check point Dunkin is on the right. The Radiology dept for an US is on the left of Dunkin.

What are the visiting hours. And how many visitors can a patient have?

Laura Gelinas | Aug 30, 2021
Lisa Latwis | Aug 30, 2021

Visiting hours are 12:00-8:00 pm. They were allowing 2 people to visit in a day. However only 1 person in the room at a time. Things change everyday so, I would call ahead.

Can you have visitors if you're a patient?

Michele DeMauro | Aug 30, 2021
Bill Coyle | Aug 30, 2021

Right now it varies due to COVID, I know they were letting one visitor per patient at a time but idk if that has changed since COVID numbers recently increased and I know it can vary depending on where in the hospital you are visiting someone and your relationship with the patient.

If you have the money to pay them, they will gladly take it and perform any type of elective (i.e. unnecessary) surgery. Beware that they may not have competent surgical staff, and you will most likely be forced to sign a waiver that legally prevents you from filing a lawsuit if the outcome of the surgery is not favorable (i.e. if they botch the surgery, you will have no legal recourse, and thus no way to be compensated for any damages due to malpractice, that they may or may not be responsible for.) Caveat emptor, buyer beware.

Can't believe the take 5 hour to take care of a person that have diabetes n have ribs pain leg pain n bleeding what kind of hospital it's this

That's not really a question. But it is true, they're an awful medical establishment, most likely because they're owned by a for-profit corporation. I know this from extensive firsthand experience -- interactions with a variety of staff, from front of house to back of house, from the lowest paid employees to the "top" doctors. Do yourself a favor and find medical treatment elsewhere. (This is purely my opinion. Legally, I am explicitly stating that this opinion cannot be used as evidence of defamation. I am exercising my First Amendment right to free speech, which is an unalienable right and therefore cannot be denied to me under any pretext whatsoever. Attorneys are prohibited from filing frivolous lawsuits. So don't even try messing with me.)

They will most likely claim that such information is confidential, and it will not be disclosed to you. You will need to investigate to find out for yourself, or to avoid personal legal liability, find/hire someone who can do such an investigation on your behalf (Private Investigator and/or Attorney).
