Terrible customer service and technicians. Heater would only fully ignite if I banged on the side of it, not when the thermostat engaged. I decided to make an appointment to get a tech out to check it out. First avail appt was 3 weeks away (after Thanksgiving) So I made a $25 appointment to get someone over to diagnose the problem sooner (you have to pay to get someone within a week). He came at the allotted time, played around with the unit, and told me the control unit was broken and needed to be replaced. Great. He leaves. Later in the evening when I want to turn it on, the heater no longer turns on at all, and the thermostat is broken, no longer reading proper temp in the apt. I tried everything to get this thing on, pilots lit....everything. Tech broke it. So after 2 shouting matches with two "Customer support" agents, who both enjoyed arguing more than helping, Ive essentially paid $25 for a tech to come out and render my heater useless. They refused to reimburse the $25, saying it was to pay for the time slot. They also pushed me along to a field supervisor to fix the heater that their guy broke, which will take over a week, if he even calls. Good customer service would have at least refunded the $25 for the inconvenience of whatever their "tech" did to the heater, and good customer service would have found a way to fix the unit they broke immediately, not wait for a phonecall for a week over the holidays, when family is visiting and im sure would love some heat. Neither will happen, and this giant company and their "customer service" agents just stole $25 from someone who turned to them for help. Well done!

They canceled on me 3 times without any notice. When I call them they put me on hold for 30-40 minutes.

You cannot, it's not a payment center
It's called a: Control Rod. This long square shaped metal piece is used in floor furnaces to turn on and off the gas valve as well as the pilot. Older floor furnaces will have 2 control rods and newer ones will usually have 1 control rod.
