Updating my earlier review: Sheri from hospitality reached out to us and apologized for the experience — we really appreciated the conversation with her and will likely try Montelena again. 5 stars for Sheri, thank you! Second wine tasting on our adventure. It was a too commercialized and pretentious for my liking. Tasted a Chardonnay and four cabs - they were all good. Impersonal and stiff, though, and would definitely not recommend. Regret spending the money and time on this tasting.

Better than you can ever imagine! I recommend an early tasting here, so you have room to explore the grounds. They have a beautiful garden and lake area I could have explored all morning. The Chateau has a rich history with people who care. Lin wowed me during our tasting experience. She is genuine, kind, and truly a pleasure to spend time with. They have some wonderful collateral explaining the soil where the grapes are planted. Left with a couple of bottles. Will be back for more.

I came here on a Thursday after booking a tasting for myself and my husband. We did the standard tasting and were in a group with 4 others. It started right on time and David, who was doing our tasting, was informative and friendly. The wines were good, I especially liked their award winning chardonnay. I'd also say it was exciting to try a $185 bottle of cab sav. The grounds were beautiful. Unfortunately work was being done on a part of it so we couldn't see the lake and islands too wellsince we weren't allowed on the sidewalk. Overall I'd say worth the visit. It was shorter by a lot than many other wineries we visited, for the same cost, but beautiful none the less.

Beautiful estate. Chardonnay was a true delight and hallmark of this winery. David was a great storyteller and his wealth of knowledge for the region was as valuable as the tasting itself. 4 out of 5 stars has more to do with Covid protocols- unfortunately the bookings allowed too many people within the indoor bar area. Masks are down for wine tasting with little social distancing.

Hi Aina, At this time, we are only allowing adults 21 and up at our tastings and on property.
Hi Naarah, Our winery is centrally located in Calistoga so we usually don't have guests who have issues with transportation. Most guests drive or hire a driver for the day. However, there's also services such as the Calistoga shuttle which can drop you off and pick you up at the winery if you call in advance. Uber/Lyft has become a bit more unreliable across the country as a whole given the effects of COVID and the lack of drivers. However, in recent months, the availability of drivers is improving.
As of 4/20/19 their website indicates that the premium "Library Tasting" is $65/pp. Please check their site for other prices.
Hi Charrinee, Yes, we recommend making an appointment for a tasting so you have the ability to choose the experience you prefer and also so we can ensure we have availability. We are accepting walk-ins on select days but this is dependant on staffing and open appointments so it really varies throughout the week. Note there's some days that we aren't accepting walk-ins at all.
Hi Mary, Unfortunately we don't allow professional photoshoots on property.
No... It is wine tasting but they do have private "islands" That people rent for weddings, birthdays, etc. I believe you can have food brought in to those locations.
Hi Jim, Yes, if you have an appointment, you're free to explore the gardens after your tasting.
