Short and easy hike with a beautiful waterfall view. The water was cold at first but then felt really good. Great hiking place to go alone or with friends/family!

Really beautiful waterfall in the NC mountain range, here are some photos from the top and the bottom, the trail to the waterfall is not hard at all and mostly down hill, the rocks are a tad bit slippery, you can swim but I would advise not to as I slipped in and the current kept trying to pull me it’s also very deep like an immediate drop off. ⚠️Do not jump off waterfalls as it is not aloud here and fatalities have happend⚠️ no lifeguards present if you’re going to swim, swim with a group of friends or family.

Elk River Falls is awesome! It is easy to find (big sign on where to turn). Once you park, the walk/ hike there isn't far at all. The area is very cool and makes for some great pics. The kids loved it! We visited in July of 2021 and the weather great. The water was cold, but refreshing!

This place is absolutely beautiful. Great for hiking, swimming, and great for taking photos. It was a little crowded the day I showed up, but other than that I was pleasantly surprised at what my friend had taken me to randomly. I very much would suggest this to anyone who wants a place to take their kids or a spouse for a summer getaway. Or even alone if your wanting to just swim and meet some new people

No you can't sadly its illegal in NC to spread ashes anywhere
Just like Whitney said there is no official office or park ranger at the falls. It is a beautiful falls though and worth going to with the family or on a solo trip. A very short walk to access the falls.
Very very carefully!!
Try Watauga Lake at old Butler.I have heard that they have dive adventures in the area.
Not close at all.
If you like you can go to alltrails.com to find out locations details and a lot more about trails. For Elk River Falls you can call it a hike. What I would call it is a short stroll. But to answer your question it's only 0.3 of a mile out and back. With an elevation gain of 42 ft. The spot is open 24 hours and people have swam here but also be careful there have been deaths here too. Other than that enjoy your adventure to the falls. I hope this reply was helpful to you have a good day.
The area is patrolled and the authorities will remove people that appear to endanger theirselves. Be aware the water is 100 feet deep with unbelievable currents. There are 40 foot side caverns off the main area. One of the 2 killed this year was only swimming under the falls. It took 2 weeks of hard rains to wash his body out of the side caverns. I talked to a guy that claims over 100 personal jumps safely. I have watched many jump and never have i seen an injury. I believe the risk/reward leans heavily to the risk side. The consequences are so devastating for permanent disabilities or death that I think the fun and stories you tell from it can be gotten doing something else. Scuba divers know its to dangerous to attempt a body recovery. So if you're ok with a rotten corpse and closed casket I guess you're still going to jump but realise you will make the area more patrolled and ruin it for the rest of us
