Great place to spend a few hours. The main spring is just a short walk from the parking area. The second spring is only about a mile out. Bring plenty of water with you if you plan on hiking. There are no shops near by. Also most of the trails are quite sandy so wear appropriate foot wear.

These two beautiful oases used to be in much better condition. The place seems to be neglected now for whatever reason (loss of funding, loss of staff due to the Covid pandemic?). It's still a wonder to us who don't live in the desert how these two groves of palm trees have ground water. There's a hike between the two groves, part of which is through soft sand. Good exercise.

Went in the winter, January 2022. Amazing place. Unexpected experience in nature. There were a lot of big black crows cawing and flying from palm tree top to palm tree top. Their big claws make a creepy sound when they land on a palm frond. Not my favorite type of wildlife. There is a wooden boardwalk that goes through a swampy area and the palm trees here look Gigantic! It's very Jurassic Park-esq. The coolness of the ravine and water is a nice transition from the desert heat you are surrounded by. It's just a very weird, very cool place. I actually felt like I was falling over all the time. Not sure if that was because we are on an off-shoot of the San Andreas fault, or the pot I smoked? Only 4 Stars because the parking lot was closed so you have to park on a very scary desert country road where they drive 60 miles an hour and there is no paved shoulder. It's dangerous. Getting out of your car is dangerous, crossing the street is dangerous, pulling out to leave is dangerous, turning your car in the direction you want to travel after pulling out is dangerous.

They don't have a date posted so it's undetermined so far.
I would recommend against anyone with a walker or cane. Paths are uneven dirt trails with lots of trip hazards.
We were there yesterday and the pond is closed and the parking lot as are bathrooms. There's trails open.
Its open to the public,i did a few miles from one end to the other its like 2 hours hike non stop , but hard not too , to enjoy the shades of the palm trees ,....and the best thing is free, if you want to donate is welcome.
The season closes in may but hiking is ALWAYS open.
The recessed parking lot for Thousand Palms Oasis is not accessible by semi truck because 1. The entrance to the lot is narrow and very close to the highway and requires a very tight turn even from a passenger car 2. The lot itself is not very wide in such that even a passenger car arriving and departing can have issues. There is ample space for a semi truck and trailer to be parked for a short or medium duration approximately 100 yards away at the trailhead for Hidden Palms Oasis- this is east or south from the main entrance. I have taken a screenshot of where this is but at the moment answering this question I am not able to post the image because that ability has not been added by Google but if you search for Coachella Valley Preserve you will find a map and from there you can locate the trailhead for Hidden Palms Oasis and correspond that to a satellite view on Google Earth and you will see that there's ample space.
