Great views, medium experience hike. We only went 4 miles up about half way to the summit. Made the round trip 8 miles in about 3 hours and 45 minutes.... it was great. Nov is not too cold yet but definitely bring water and snacks if your going to go even to the half way point. Can't wait to go for the San Bernardino peak.

It’s some of the best wilderness and elevation in the area, hence the five stars. Mount San Gorgoni peaks at 11,503 feet; the highest peak in Southern California. A 9.25 mile trail up (the steep route) takes you from about 6,000 feet elevation to the summit. So yes, it’s a steep climb, with lots of switchbacks, and possible ice and snow patches near the top starting with the first autumn rains. Bring plenty of water. You’ll definitely see snow there most winters. Regardless of season, be prepped for high winds and cold. But you don’t have to summit the mountain to enjoy the area. You can enjoy a lot of natural beauty at lower elevations. The hike itself is scenic: starts along a wide riverbed, merges with huge evergreen trees, and then graduates into views of the high desert, distant mountains, and Mount San Jacinto across a valley. Wildlife includes mountain lions, bears, snakes, and the occasional caterpillar πŸ› Photos are mostly taken from along the Vivian Creek trail to the summit.

Questions & Answers

Is there any axe, machete or fixed blade knives prohibited during day use in the wilderness?

I'm not sure why you'd want to take such a tool out there as it's really not necessary. However, I'd recommend calling the Mill Creek Ranger Station at 909-382-2882 and ask them.
