I have a love for this place that started when I was young. My parents and I would take weekend trips down to ride out bikes around Newport and we always made a stop at the crab cooker. Fast forward 15 years and a lot of things have changed, but fortunately for us the flavors and the joy of eating at the crab cooker remain. I recommend starting with the bread and clam chowder then having some fish! You’ve gotta try the potatoes as one of your sides though, they do not disappoint 🙂

Great place for lunch! We drove from San Diego and definitely we would do it again. Every product is fresh and with excellent flavour. We tried the clam chowder, the scallops, the lobster and the crab and we all loved each plate. Each one includes 2 extras, we chose mashed potatoes and salads. For drinks we chose beer and sparkling water which was free. We waited like 15 minutes for a table for three at 2pm. There was people waiting, but there was space to wait inside. Our waiter was nice and attentive. We spent like 30 dollars each one. The place is very nice, has many details and is perfectly decorated for the kind of food.

I’ve been frequenting The Crab Cooker since the 70’s and it’s been the same since I can remember. Granted, they have just rebuilt the entire place recently. It looks and feels the same with the only difference being it’s larger now. In the summer be prepared to wait for a table, it’s well worth the wait. The food is excellent and cooked to perfection. Don’t miss out on the smoked albacore appetizer it’s a go to for a delicious starter.

It's back and better than ever... The food is amazing... prepared, seasoned, cooked to perfection, and server by friendly staff. The food is so fresh and the rebuilt building is beautiful but still has the original charm only brighter...

Yes, they're remodel is completed and they're open.
Don't know construction quite extensive but the Tustin restaurant is opened good service as nd plenty of sitting.
Love the name! I'm a local who has enjoyed the fare here since 1966. No, the Crab Cooker does not offer gift cards, use canned ingredients or take reservations. Bob Rubien made President Nixon wait on line to eat in the early 70's. Traditional sea food and seaman service. You CAN however get 3rd party gift cards online that are honored at the restaurant.
Should be still open.
Still currently waiting on permits from the city, they're thinking it might be 2 months either way they do have another location in Tustin so don't fret please come visit aloha
The Crab Cooker, to the best of my knowledge has never; 1, taken reservations, 2, used any canned ingredients or 3, offered gift cards. I'm a purist and am not real fond of that idea. I do believe everyone alive should eat here at least once in their life.
They have an outside host for submitting your name. Make sure all people in your party are with you. They have outside seating and you can purchase drinks while you wait.
June they expect to be done
When is the reopening of the Newport crab cooker ?
I dont own it or work there. I suggest you call the Crab Cooker in Tustin, they are family owned, and see if they have any updates.
Hi, Marcelle. Thank you for your question! Currently, we do not. However, we will take your point into consideration!
Most likely not, but call for sure! Hope this helps!
Yes, but not sure what their current hours are. They are staying open through the end of summer and then they'll be closed for a year while they rebuild the structure.
They open everyday, but it will good to call and confirm before you go.
Call the Tustin restaurant they are still open
