The wife and I stopped at Canal Street Pub dinner. The beer selection was average with other places. The place was not busy for a Friday evening which was concerning. Both my wife and I felt like I walked into an episode of Bar Rescue before Jon Taffer shows up. The service was meh, especially when it wasn't busy at all. Got my salad after I received my entree. When I got my entree, my chicken was piping hot while my rice was room temperature. The chicken was tasty as well as the rice. The wife ordered the panini special, but received a ciabatta sandwich instead. Not a huge deal but should be advertised as such. We were both shocked at the prices of the meals which we figured was due to supply chain issues or slow business having to raise prices or a combination of both. It was a couple of years for our last visit to Canal Street Pub and it will be another couple of years before we decide to try it again.

Great food. They were short staffed when we went but we wouldn't have noticed if we didn't see the waitress buzzing by so frequently. One of the fastest waitresses I've ever had last Friday night so we tipped over 100%

The food was delicious and immaculately plated. The beer list is pretty good too, not huge on draft, but how many do you really need? Everything was tender, well-seasoned, and very interesting. The 4-star is because there was a huge party in the restaurant section, and it slowed the kitchen so much that we were waiting ~45-60min for entrées after appetizers. They gave us a discount, though, and I'll revise this if it's quick when we go back on a regular night (we'll definitely be returning).

My husband and I had our wedding at Canal Street on December 31, 2017. We were able to rent the entire restaurant for New Years Eve! We both grew up in Berks County were looking for a unique reception venue that incorporated the history and uniqueness of Reading. We looked at several industrial settings but Canal Street won hands down because of the service, atmosphere, and price! Immediately, the owner Jake made me feel so at ease with planning the reception. He offered so many helpful tips and constantly reminded me it was my day and was willing to work with me on making my wedding vision come to life! His head server, Elise, was also phenomenal! She worked so diligently the days before the wedding to make everything perfect and the night of the wedding was so attentive to us and our guests. We are still receiving compliments on the food! We had a sit down dinner with the choices of grilled salmon, Italian chicken, or NY strip. Jake requested that all of the guests receiving steak respond with how they would like their steak cooked.I couldn't believe the chef would be able to cook that many steaks different ways but I am told by my guests their steaks came out perfect and were some of the best they ever had! Along with the phenomenal hors d'oeuvres and entrees, we had a 5.5 hr open bar! The bar tenders were so attentive! I never saw a guest waiting at the bar for too long without service! My husband does not drink beer so they put his favorite cider on tap! Canal street went above and beyond our expectations! Our guests who had been there before were blown away and felt it was transformed from the normal pub/restaurant to an elegant and romantic atmosphere! We did hire a decorator but even without all the lights and draping it is such a beautiful building! One of the best parts, is that we can go back there for dinner and relive our wedding memories and see all of the staff who were so kind to us!

Are reservations required, or are walk ins okay?

Adrian, Linda is right, we are happy to serve walk-in guests but recommend reservations especially Friday and Saturday evenings. Evan is right too, there are events that take over the entire restaurant or draw bigger crowds. Feel free to call (610-376-4009) or check our Facebook posts for updates.
