Request garden room seating. Staff is amazing and the food is quite good. They have a nice little gift shop as well. Be sure to stop by Sanctuary de Chimayo for an added plus.

Rancho de Chimayo relies on its past reputation. We had an amazing lunch experience 38 years ago and hoped for a unique experience once again. This restaurant has tripled in size and it’s quality has dropped consistently. The beautiful outdoor dining experience is gone. Instead expect tired paint, rusty chairs and tables and dreadful plastic tablecloths. The margarita drink menu consists of mediocre tequila with margarita mix (despite the menu descriptions) in plastic cups. The food is mass produced, poorly cooked, and the service is slow and the waiters overworked. The reception is abrupt, again perhaps overworked - a distinctive contrast to the positive and attentive service and receptionist experience at EVERY other restaurant we experienced in Santa Fe for the past week. Reception is always where the tone is set for the dining experience. I assume the ownership has totally changed at Rancho de Chimayo over the past years.

We were only able to stay in Santa Fe one night, so we were very deliberate and choosy when selecting where we would have dinner. While it was recommended by Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, when we arrived we found that that recommendation was made when it was owned by its previous tenants. We stayed anyway and were absolutely impressed by the menu, our meal, the drinks, the service, and the hospitality. Our server was one of the owners and the chef was her husband and co-owner of the restaurant. Very unique and different foods from the typical New Mexican restaurant, but very authentic. In fact the red sauce is the owner’s grandmother’s recipe and photos of her and their family decorate the restaurant. She recently passed away at 100 years old. This truly was New Mexican fine dining, probably the best New Mexican meal we’ve ever experienced, and worth the wait as well as the money. It is located in a former home so it feels very intimate and inviting. The personal attention was exemplary. A truly wonderful experience and if I could give it 10 stars I would! We will be return when we next visit Santa Fe!

This was a nice place. Service was excellent. The tortilla soup was too salty and the shredded beef could use some salt. But the queso, guacamole, and green chili sauce were excellent. We even bought a couple of jars to bring home. Even with the salt issues, I'd recommend this place.
