Beautiful area with many picnic areas and boat ramps. The dam itself is pretty cool to walk across. Visitor center is only open Monday through Friday, which kind of sucks for those who work during the week, but even without a tour or brochures, there's a lot to see around the dam and walking across the dam is an experience in and of itself. If you're in the area, and have half an hour to spare, definitely worth stopping and taking a look at. There's a vista point further up the road from the dam that gives you a good view of Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, and Mount Shasta.

Some really nice views, as well as a drive across the dam. Very beautiful. And you can see Shasta in the distance!

Very beautiful view of mount Shasta. Dam is magnificent. You can see the hydroelectric station at the dam.

Really enjoyed my visit to the Shasta Dam! Enjoyed the video about the building of the Dam! I enjoyed my walk along the bridge! Absolutely stunning!

Behind Shasta Dam is Shasta Lake, which is the largest water reservoir in California. California is the most populous State in the United States. Shasta Lake provides irrigation for parts of the San Joaquin Valley, one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. From Wikipedia: Shasta Dam creates Shasta Lake for long-term water storage, flood control, hydroelectricity and protection against the intrusion of saline water
I'm not sure about yours but if you like peace and mediation it's great for walking and eating at the picnic branches
You can at this time drive over the damn, but not stop on it. though it doesnt look like it because the way the cones are plced, but the guard will come out of his shack to check to make sure your registration is current, then wave you on.
There is no cost to take part in the tour. Be sure to show up a bit early to the visitor's center to get your ticket(s) for the tour, then walk to the middle of the dam, where the tour starts.
There's a tunnel from whiskey town lake that goes to Keswick ,never heard about your tunnel , I've been here since the mid 60's ,
The website has all the information. The free tour is great
