Love this place! Not super huge but lots of birds to see. My favorite was the tropical room where you walk among the birds. We easily spent 30ins in that room. Overall it was a 1.5 hr visit for us could be longer if you do more free activities at specific times or grab lunch. The bakery item I got from the cafe was delicious. All the staff were very knowledgeable so engage and ask questions!

I was visiting family and decided to go to the National Aviary since I haven't been there since I was a kid. Plus I wanted to show it to my daughter. The Aviary is awesome! It's a great place for everyone of all ages to visit and enjoy. I highly recommend signing up for one of their animal encounters. We decided to do the Penguin Encounter and it was great! Our family got to see a penguin up close and pet him. Even if you don't do one of the animal encounters there are still lots of beautiful birds and other animals to see. Many of them aren't shy and will get pretty close to people during the visit so that you can get up close pictures. Great experience and an awesome way to learn about different types of birds.

What an absolutely magical experience. The National Aviary is one of the most unique places I have ever visited. Being able to see such beautiful birds, up close, and in areas that match their natural habitat was just breaktaking. I am actually scared of birds, but this experience helped me rationalize that fear and realize how awe inspiring these winged creatures are. My favorite area was definitely the Flamingo habitat, I truly could have sat there for hours. Admission is absolutely fairly priced, and parking was easy. You truly have to experience the National Aviary if you find yourself in Pittsburgh, you won't regret it.

Wow! So much fun, especially for bird lovers. You could easily spend a couple hours here admiring the wide varieties of species, but we spent a little over an hour and a half and I definitely felt I got more than my money's worth, but I could have stayed way longer. Definitely make sure to see a few free events, like the tropical bird feeding! Highly recommend - very friendly and helpful staff

With over 10,000 bird species inon Earth, i think it would be very hard to have them all in 1 building.
Yes this place is kid friendly. I was just there yesterday and they have alot of fun activities for children. Tho most of the activities cost a few bucks extra but they seem very well worth it.
It's free, but we only have two available. You can use them on a first come first serve basis.
There's volunteer opportunities for ages 14-17 and 18+ . I believe you have to register ahead of time for teen volunteering.
There are not public lockers, however the staff will work to secure valuables.
Yep, we got one for my mom. Didn't realize they only had two. It's in pretty good shape though. Also in general everything is flat do it was easy to push her around although at some places the paths were a bit tight for people to get past us.
