Warning! Need to wear tennis shoes or boots. Uneven surface throughout cave and tight spaces to squeeze through in areas. Lots of downhill and steep uphill climbing. If you have any health issue I would reconsider doing it. There are no crystals, stalagmites or stalactites. This is more of a rock transformation of water flow and movement overtime. It is a big cavern that does feature a waterfall but the use of colored lights to me is trying to play up the plain. You can go on spelunking adventures which takes you deeper into the caverns. As well you can view the caverns on your own or with a tour guide. You do get more facts and information with the tour guide. There are plaques place throughout to describe certain parts. There is a really neat panning part. Normally these are outdoors but this one is inside what looks like the caverns next to the gift shop. The place was clean and had nice bathrooms. A lovely porch of the rear of the building gave you a beautiful sight of the city below.

Laurels caverns are very good, we enjoyed our tour and history facts about caverns. Also the musical show inside the caverns nice and interesting. They allowed for tour all ages, but you need to carry babies on hands. No wheelchair I guess, too narrow sometimes, a lot of stairs, low clearance, nice lightening. And 52°F. So for all better to take warm clothes. You can also enjoy a nice waterfall inside caverns.

Laurel Caverns was a beautiful Sandstone cavern. What I would call a great "beginner" cave if you did just the main area of the cave. (They do offer more extensive exploration tours/"spelunking" in the upper caverns (I think 9 was the minimum age for this) and lower caverns (I believe they said 12 years old). Lots of beautiful areas to walk through. The only thing I DO want to say is there are many areas that become extremely steep to walk and climb. It can also be very slippery to walk through as well even in the main areas of the cave. They do a good job of trying to help with paths and stairs as much as possible. It is also very low in some areas so tall people beware (6ft and above).

Do tours turn off all lights for a couple seconds to show the extreme darkness? AND are there bbats in the cave?

Robert Cogan | Jun 26, 2021

There are spots in it where there are no lights. Devil's staircase is one. There are bats on one side of the cave but we were not allowed to go there when I went and m not sure why.
