Response to owner's reply: It is unacceptable to sacrifice hygiene and safety in favor of less waste. If you have issues with soap wrappers clogging drains, make sure there are drain guards and clean them regularly. Alternatively, ask guests to unwrap the soap in front of you. Throwing a bunch of unwrapped soap on a plastic table is just unsanitary and gross. There have been multiple studies which show that blow dryers are much less hygienic than paper towels. One such study conducted by the National Institutes of Health concluded, "From a hygiene viewpoint, paper towels are superior to electric air dryers." The blow dryer has been in the Salvation Army bathroom for years, but has only been functional recently. The Salvation Army treats guests like they are animals. For example, men have to use cold stainless steel toilets that have no seats. Therefore, the men behave like animals and leave paper towels on the floor. I have stayed multiple nights and spoke to many different guests. Sheets are only provided to program guests, not overnighters. The owner did not address the issues of the malfunctioning faucets and water fountain, or the lack of pillows. I hope these issues are resolved quickly.

While I am grateful to have a bed to sleep in overnight, it would be nice if guests were treated with dignity instead of like desperate trash. In the age of COVID it is surprising the lack of good hygiene practices here. Male guests are provided with an unpackaged bar of soap, a towel, and a blanket. No sheets or pillowcases are provided, so we sleep on bare vinyl mats. Actually no pillows are provided, so that explains the lack of pillowcases. The bathrooms have one faucet out of six that stays on for more than one second, so you have to constantly hold the handle down to wash your other hand. Of course, this is very unsanitary. No paper towels are provided, only one hand blow-dryer. The water in the one fountain provided for the men's shelter does not go up more than an inch, so it's nearly impossible to use. In order for the residents of the family shelter to have time to get ready for work, overnight guests are woken up at 5:00 a.m. or earlier, and must leave by 6:00 a.m., rain or shine. Even though residents of the family shelter can stay in on weekends, guests are still woken up at 5:00 a.m. It is one hour later on the men's side. As I said I appreciate having shelter, but I don't believe this shelter is living up to the Salvation Army's mission.

I called to donate a futon and a piano which they would not take I understand our neighborhoods would be much worse off without the salvation army.
