The low rating is for the group classes. The resort is fine as far as I can tell. The group classes we purchased were worse than useless. They put all three of us with the same instructor, even though we said we are not at the same level, and I'm with my two kids. Our lesson did not start on time. My kids weren't able to engage with the instructor at all.

This is not a 5-star reviewed resort anymore. Vail resorts bought Whitetail and the surrounding mountains and kept the names the same so the Google reviews look like it’s still a great place to visit. It’s a mess! We sat in the car line 30 minutes just to turn into the resort parking lot. Got parked by 10am and after lift tickets and rental gear pick up we didn’t even get to the long line at the lift until 12:45pm. It’s severely understaffed and overcrowded. This is the biggest issue. Vail is clearly just packing in as many people as they can without any cap on lift tickets and not following with the appropriate staffing. All the bullet points below are just emphasizing how they need to limit the number of tickets they give each day and hire more staff. - When we visited before Vail took over and Covid, they had people directing parking. There was only 1 employee on his own this time and it was chaos. They also used to have a shuttle bus to the farther lots, which wasn’t running. - lift ticket pick up took at least 30 minutes - the rental line took between 1-2 hours. Today (Saturday) they only had 2 people working behind the desk for rentals. - ski lifts take about 30 minutes. - every run is basically just ice. If you’re a beginner, be ready to fall on hard surfaces while dodging a hoard of other beginners. - Covid rules: I’m all about protocols to keep people safe but they are just inconveniencing without any actual benefit. They create a line into their marketplace cafe for you to “show” proof of vaccination. You can literally show any photo of a vax card and walk in. They have no idea what your name is. It’s so dumb. Once you’re inside no one is wearing masks and there is no enforcement for any protocol at all. It’s basically come in at your own risk with a pretend vaccination check to get inside. - Once inside any of the cafeterias, they’ll charge you $15 for a hotdog, chips, and a water bottle so be prepared for that too… - whitetail used to have a concierge service for your skis and snowboards but it wasn’t there this time. I’m guessing again this has to do with staffing. Instead, there was a massive junkyard of skis and snowboards sprawled out near the picnic tables because there weren’t enough ski racks. All and all, this used to be a great place to get out but now it’s a dumpster fire. If you have a family and you enjoy frustration and burning your money, definitely go here.

BE CAREFUL ON THE ROADS. Roads were fine until the last few miles and then they were pure ice. At least one sedan off the road on it's side by 9am. I'd advise go late season or don't go at all. Slopes weren't too crowded until one of the two chairlifts open needed to have it's "spacing adjusted" for a few hours. Spent half my time on one green run that was nice but I still felt more than a little cheated not having much open.

The review is only based on my experience skiing on a busy weekend day (Saturday). We drove from State college (2 hour drive). Upon arrival, we were greeted with a crowd scene typical of a concert of a highly successful rock band. No parking, nearly 30 minutes to collect our previously booked lift tickets and another long 2 hour queue in freezing cold to collect our rental equipment. We were tired even before we began. The lifts were chaotic. I stood in line for nearly 1 hour to get the lift. All the frustration aside, the place is excellent for beginners. Multiple magic carpet slopes and easy routes for new skiers. All the slopes were not fully operational as it is still the beginning of the ski season. The resort is managed by the Epic Mountains so my epic pass profile worked seamlessly. The prices are fairly low compared to other places. Lift tickets for full day was just $80.

Yes they do but you might want to check what size boots they offer. Most resorts only have a limited amount of small sizes. I would suggest calling ahead.
There are options for lessons. For 12 and under, they have a morning or afternoon or all day option. They get the kids the ski equipment and have a nice dedicated area for beginners. Whitetail is great for this.
Yes. I have seen people with a dog on the leash but you won't be able to go inside.
Service animals only
I didn't use any of the amenities or sports. So sorry.
Unfortunately, I can't answer that question. We went there for winter sports but it was not open yet to the public only to the members. We were just able to see the place and nothing more.
No sorry; not that much room
Downhill and tubing
Kiddie slope sign reads ages 2-4. If your child is adventurous get a full access pass and a double tube so they can ride with the big kids too.
This is the best place for tubing. We did around 23 tubing slides in 2 hours. The staff is very friendly and it is just around 1 hour away from Gaithersburg, Germantown, ijamsville, Urbana, Poolesville area.
dunno exactly but the rentals were about $100 for boots, a helmet and tickets and a board and u should pack lunch bc food is expensive af
There is several camp grounds within about 15 miles or less of the ski area. Just not sure if they are open this time of year.
When it finally gets cold enough to blow snow.. I expect Dec 23rd maybe the 21st if we are lucky, but there is ZERO snow on the mountain.
So depending where you live but there are events on FB that offer to take you from the DMV up to the resort. But its a separate business
Yes, you can get your skiis and snowboards waxed here. Just take into the store and walk to the back. Someone will be there to help you.
You can't rent them and the goggles they sell there are expensive. I recommend buying them online or at another store not in the resort if possible.
It is a PDF file that you need to download, it's not an application, rather you just prefill a form with all the details for your equipment rental. If you go to the tickets page you will find the link
Skiwhitetail.com
They were aiming for the 14th but I guess because of all the rain it looks like it was pushed back to the 17th. Might want to call before you head up to Whitetail.
Whitetail usually opens a week or two before Christmas if we're lucky. There have been times they haven't opened until after New Years. Best thing to do is check their web site www.skiwhitetail.com
Yes you can, im not sure of the specifics of wether it's catch and release or not, but can fish in the ponds
5 years and up can tube in the large runs. Special kiddie run for kids ages 2-4.
It all depends on how much snow we get this year.
There are many different options to choose from. If you still want to do something outside, you can still go snow tubing. There are also many restaurants at Whitetail resorts. Including a Pizzaria and many other food options where you can get warm food and drinks. All of the restaurants and the lodge have wifi that are good enough for surfing the internet. Hope this helps!
I agree with " it depends". Mornings are best when its warm. It can be nice if freshly groomed, but will likely end up like heavy mashed potatoes by afternoon. Good news is that its cold out now. All-in-all, a day outside on the snow is better than many things!
Yes, if you are going to be more than one day or with family I would suggest buying a six pack card. It gives you 2 hours for 6 people to be snowtubbing
No do not need appointment.
Tubing starts at 5pm daily, & ends at 10pm, if I remember correctly. But you might wanna check out the website to be sure.
No, equipment rental is separate from lift tickets
I would think the family will have a service. IF your asking if Whitetail will, that can only be answered by them contact customer service for further info.
Dan stains is talking About the holiday Inn its bout 15 minutes from the resort
No, The county that whitetail is in is considered a dry county, however I was told by staff at whitetail that I could bring my own beer into the resort.
You can stand near the small kiddie hill while your three year old rides down it. The tubes are too small for adults.
There's no sledding here, just tubing.
Its a pretty long an steep hill.they have tubes for 2 riders and a baby hill.don't think a 2 yr old can go down the big hill.
There is a lodge with food for sale, restrooms and warming stations. Attached is a large deck with picnic tables. The best spot for watching the tubing action would be the fire pit located next to the tubing lanes.
They are making snow. The resort will be opening shortly as will tubing.
Whitetail just opened fully two days ago.
Likely to be open for Christmas as they are making snow. There are two opportunities for making more snow between now and then.
Now!
If you check the app "OntheSnow" it says 12/15. Just a few weeks away!!!
I would ask the staff. I doubt they'd be OK with that.
Four seasons means the resort has activities that happen year round, although they are specific to the season. Sadly, snow doesnt start getting blown until around late November at the absolute earliest.
I was there this past weekend and only allowed 4 singles and one double as what was said above. They can arrange them in different formations depending on the lane.
I don't know. We did a day trip and only to the ski area. Did see one lady with a dog on leash.
Actually, you can't book rentals online. I rented skis 2021. You book lift tickets online and get rentals only after you get there. You can buy them at the ticket window to the right when you walk up. The rentals are through the underpass to the left in front of the slopes. Very simple process. The only problem I has was the lockers are not available to put your shoes so I had to walk back to the car twice, long walk. They really should let people use their lockers again.
Yes
Not too sure what it all includes, what I do know is that their seasonal, so they are only open for skiing and tubing in the winter months.
