The only reason not to give 5 stars is the construction renovation and a few matters that were specific to my room but not necessarily other rooms. First let me say the staff was fantastic, kind and , friendly. Best I have seen. The bed was so comfortable and the bath and shower and the new room decor is truly the best I have seen. I was traveling alone and had a smaller room with no balcony or view but I would definitely upgrade next time. I can not wait to see this place when the renovations are done! I did make the suggestion to the staff that what was missing in my room were two very important things. 1] a full length mirror 2) a chair. They brought me a folding chair but a comfortable chair for reading and morning coffee would be nice. This is not the case with other rooms apparently. I am very grateful to the kind staff and their smiling faces. I find this refreshing and hope this is always the case as it made my stay even more pleasurable. Good job. I have stayed here many times in the past and am so happy to see the beautiful changes being made. I have so many wonderful memories here with those I have loved in life and some who are no longer here. To know others will have beautiful memories like I have going forward warmed my heart a little as I was able to remember my own. Life spent with loved ones is precious…spend the money..make the memories.

Michael and Vita were very nice to work with. Our room was clean, had a great ground floor ocean view, and was spacious. The rain shower head was nice, with good flow and hot water. Lighting could have been better in the bathroom. The AC worked great. Loved the rooftop deck. Parking was adequate. The hotel is undergoing a facelift, inside and out. We stayed in the renovated part. The exterior of the older part is not pretty. There is a nice pool area that we did not utilize. We will come back.

I stayed in the hotel for four nights while on business. I had relatively little interaction with the staff but everyone was friendly. Pros - Location is excellent. The hotel is near many restaurants and stores and offers a spectacular view of the coast. It has a massive rooftop deck which is great for lounging or working outside - A large park area is directly across the street and hosts a variety of birds and sea lions - I stayed in one of the more newly renovated rooms which was clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows in particular afforded a good night's sleep Considerations - Currently under construction so parts of the hotel feel a bit shabby but the new parts are great. The rooftop bar will be awesome (when it's done) - Parking is not included. - Sound carries between rooms. - Light switches in rooms seem unnecessarily complicated

No La Jolla hotel has this ideal spot overlooking the cove. However... it is also a really old motel like building that is under a slow updating process. The older rooms are well below even a good motel chain. They are dated and dingy. The newly renovated rooms are done very well in every way. So the difference is rather extreme. (We had one of each.) Kind and friendly staff. If you tend to value and enjoy time on balconies... this is the place....if you choose an ocean front or hang out n the huge 5th floor roof top. If not... there are hotels nearby in the town that will provide a more classy hotel with a short walk to the cove.
