It depends on what is involved. A simple divorce for the paperwork to be done may only cost $2500 to $5000. Depends on how complicated the case is how much property and children are involved whether child custody and child support and/or spousal support is being requested.
Your sister needs to leave the relationship or get out of the living situation. If you personally witness any physical abuse, you can call the police. Just realize that if you report it and your sister does not have any desire to leave, it could jeopardize the situation at home for her and the children. Until the point that your sister is ready to leave, there isn't much you can do other than converse with her and be strong. If she is prepared to leave, ensure, she leaves with the children. Set up an arrangement where to go, when to pack, when to leave, and so forth.
