2/5 star review, not a good shelter at all, and that's all I'm going to say because I'm keeping my thoughts about this shelter to myself only, but my thoughts about this shelter are going to be too harsh to post here and in the future, I do hope this shelter gets taken down and changed, don't come here if you have a ESA, they will make you get rid of it and love to see ppl get emotional hurt.

I live here, and it's a pretty nice place. The staff members are kind, and remember your name. They're willing to help you get back on your feet, no matter what walk of life you're from. The food is nice, and they supply blankets and towels and the ability to do laundry, as well as resources to help you. The only reason I give 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 is due to the fact that some members who live there are very loud and rude, and nothing is said or done about it. Even though quite a few people who live there can just deal with or are used to it, some members come from abuse and that kind of thing can be slightly scary, even if there's no physical threat involved. But I would definitely recommend the Lawrence Community Shelter if you're in need of help.

Yes any kind of clothing and canned food will also gladly taken for donations and some furniture too
You can work it off easily in their kitchen, no problem.
Couples do get their own room... Not sure if not technically married matters for the sake of the children or child
There are about as many as 250 people who stay at the shelter. The accept donations at any time.
No ma'am, we work to provide short term storage for all of our guests.
Under certain circumstances we do yes
I'm not very sure, I took a man there that was out of state and had family nearby and they told him to see if he had any family and he said yes. He got back with his family but I wasn't told the situation on how much room they had left but I'll suggest giving it a try to see if there is any room left. If this helps, I'm happy :), if not I'm very sorry. :(
They tend to tell people who call that they are full, but showing up around 5pm is a good time since new staff will be there (shift change). They allow married couples, but unless you have children, you WILL be in separate dorms. Only "families" are separated. But it's free to stay, 3 warm meals, emergency clothing if needed, free hygiene products, free laundry. Do chores to earn bus tickets. There is a new curfew in effect of 10pm. This is not a "dry" shelter. Which means No drugs or alcohol on site, but you can show up before curfew drunk as hell or high as giraffe p*say and as long as you don't break rules you can stay. With that being said you should know that stable, healthy living, responsible people most likely have safe housing, so these are the broken, traumatized, abused, forgotten, depressed, and community unwanted are. It's on edge of town next to the county jail and on other side is Hillcrest Wreckers Tow and lot where they park the Sheriff's vehicles. Bus #1 to get there.
If they have children yes, in the family wing. Otherwise no, they will get a bed in the room assigned for what gender they are.
Yes. And even more on the first
Three consecutive nights as a drop-in.
Ok thank you, if you can kindly give me the info of that shelter, I will check out that place by calling, and again, thank you.
They might, depends on what is needed I guess. There is a move out program which collects things needed when homes are found for them, such as furniture, etc. Microwaves are on that list and bigger appliances may be on that list as well.
Thank you to the previous two posters for providing accurate information. Hailey, although we are a low-barrier shelter and do not require any form of identification for entry, we are currently not accepting new intakes of individuals. If you are part of a family in need of shelter, please do visit our website and contact Sheryl, as suggested below. Feel free to call 785-832-8864 M-F for more information. https://www.lawrenceshelter.org/family-program/
