Unicoi State Park & Lodge

We only visited, and did not stay in the lodge. This park is huge. Make sure you have plenty of time to get where you are going if you are not familiar because we probably drove around 15 or 20 minutes before finding a playground. The playgrounds aren't that large, but the park does have a place roped off for swimming that my daughter really enjoyed. Disclaimer- we did see a snake swimming so don't expect a "pool" type experience.

This was such an awesome park- did the lake trail (think it was 2.5 miles) we went off onto some other paths a few times and even actually saw a black bear. Trail was easy and had some great views- can't beat parking/entrance only being $5

We visited in the fall and in May. This is a great park. In the fall we camped and it was slow enough we had the place to ourselves. In May it was still pretty slow and we hiked with little traffic.

Unicoi State Park is a great family park where you can camp, hike, mountain bike, fish, play, and make awesome family memories! We’ve tent camped, came up for family day trips to picnic, hike, and explore! No matter your fitness level, the lake loop trail around Unicoi Lake is about 2.5 miles and not super difficult! Some people fish off the bank and others fish from kayaks. Some just visit to paddle around on a kayak. If you’re not a tent camper, you can rent a cabin. If you’re not into that style of stay, check out the Unicoi Lodge. I’ve never stayed there, but I have ate at the Lodge, and it was great! You can Zip-Line around the park as well.
