This used to be a nice place to live but for the last 4 months it has been one on the worst places I have ever lived. The people who work for Tierra vista are very incompetent. I have called time and time again they say they will call back but never do. We have tried going to the main office to speak to them but have always been given the run around saying they are short manned or they didn’t receive anything from us. As for base itself it took almost 2 weeks just for them to mow the grass but they leave dirt and grass on the sidewalks. We like to take our dogs on walks and they never fill up the dog bag stations, It has been this way for almost 3 months. The playgrounds are out of date and unsafe for children to play on, They are rusted and have sharp areas on them. Please Terra vista if you can’t keep up with supply and demand of the base don’t bother putting in playgrounds and dog bag stations. If we weren’t in a lease I would have moved out by now. Can’t wait for our lease to be up so we can move out of here. If your considering moving to this base I would suggest you find other areas to live their are much nicer and cheaper options if you look online. Tierra vista is not worth your money and time. Also if you think it’s safer living on base I would tell you your wrong. Lots of cars have been keyed and broken into since we moved here.

I liked the sense of security the “base” provides. Living so close to water made everything better. The customer service was great! The maintenance department was great. I had a couple of incidents with non military personnel that are allowed to live on base with their families because they don’t understand the pride and honor that goes along with rendering respect to our flag whether it be in the morning or afternoon. But other than that our one year stay was great!!

It is a gated community only for retired military. It used to only be for active duty military in Air Force. Now it is open to all military branches and Coast Guard in addition to homeland security officers and federal police officers and certain City Fire Department current or retired. Three stars because it is marginal affordable. You must prove that you only will use 20% of your income towards the rent. At Fort MaCarthur it is Apartments that are two bedrooms with no garage no covered parking whatsoever. You live right next to the ocean and all the saltwater will destroy your car. It cost $2,500 a month it includes all utilities and cable. So you could run your air conditioner full blast year round and you get free cable. The negative also is there's only one entry and exit that is open and available. They have six entrance and exits but they only open one. So you are in a long line of cars when you get home from work between 5 and 6 p.m. you have to wait at least 20 to 30 minutes just to get into the community because there's only one guard Tower that allows entrance or exit. And in the morning at 6 a.m. it's the same long line to get out simply because the guard has to lift the gate for each and every car. There's a lot of domestic violence going on in this community and if you call the guard Tower they find a reason to get you excommunicated ! Positives are you live right next to the beach but of course the easy access gate is always locked and not available cuz you could just walk from the location right to the beach but instead you have to walk about a mile and a half all the way around so it's a positive and a negative.

Tierra Vista is a wonderful place to live. I have lived here for two years. Of all the places I have lived, including my own personal home, this is by far my favorite. I love the amenities offered starting by the level of security and the safety. I love the entrance. I tell my friends about the entrance and I love driving down what I call ( my winding driveway) to my lovely home. The views are incredible on the base and the maintenance and landscaping of the facility is second to none. High priority is placed on my comfort and well being and it shows throughout the facility. I have visitors who also have lived in gated communities and many tell me they wish they had the same level of protection I experience on this base. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy living at Fort Mc Arthur Air Force Base also known as Tierra Vista. If you desire a pleasant environment with a view, and a place where children can freely and safely play along with a management staff that is always willing to serve you, then Tierra Vista is your place.
