Very different experience than Cherokee mine - professional (as opposed to conversational) and methodological. The overall synopsis is you wash rocks, do some minor checks, while the main guy works his way up amd down the line checking the concentrate with his uv laser until he stops at your spot. Sheffield has much more leadership involvement than cherokee, whereas at cherokee you're left to your own devices. I personally did not care for this approach, whereas my girlfriend did. One squeeker and one honker found while we were there. We took the concentrate home for further processing, and found quite a few more. Buckets are smaller but also cheaper. I think the number of rubies found was about the same, or slightly more. Would seriously recommend for families with kids who can concentrate on washing. A lot of fun!

Had a great time at Sheffield Mine with my family. There were 9 of us and we all found rubies in the native buckets. We had 2 Honkers (54 carats and 35.5 carats), 2 Squeakers and a lot of smaller stones. We were there for several hours and Richard helped us all. His knowledge of the rocks we were finding made the whole experience even more enjoyable. GPS led us astray trying to get there, but the signs helped re-direct us to the site. Just remember, although they don’t close until 5:00, they stop taking guests at 3:00 sharp. It takes time to go through and clean your buckets of dirt! We will definitely be back!

Outstanding! We highly recommend. We visited twice and found an 11 Carot ruby the first time and a 50 Carot Honker on our second trip!!! And then we bought a $100 Big Bucket and hit the motherlode with Enriched gems.... <3 Don't waste your money on other "NATIVE" mines where you will spend alot and only find a little...

It was a super fun experience. If you are into gemstones and don't mind getting a little bit dirty, this place is it! The gentleman that helps visitors is very knowledgeable about the various stones that you may come across. We came home with jaspers, emeralds, amethysts, quartz crystals, and rubies! There were several more, but I cannot name them all. It is a day-long adventure and worth every penny!

No and yes. The rubies & sapphires are native, though we also have Rainbow buckets that are seeded with several varieties of gemstones from around the world. Kids and people with not so muchctime, or simply those who want to be sure that they take home some gemstones love the Rainbow buckets, but rubies, the more valuable stones, may or may not be in the Native buckets - we don't know but we wiil show you what to look for and how.
No you mine for them in dirt them keep what you find
