I can't say enough wonderful things about this fun venue and the fantastic women who keep it running. They have both a derby track and a regular rink with group classes almost every day plus open skate sessions and periodic special events (this past weekend they had a benefit for breast cancer). I bought my skates a month ago and bought a package of group classes. I started with Carolee's "return to skate" class where I learned the basics to keep me safe and start to build confidence on wheels. Carolee has a lifetime of experience skating and her lesson was fun and easy to follow, she will meet you where you're at! Then I moved on to dance classes with Melissa and "vol 2" with Donna. Both of these women are amazing at what they do and I like that the content of the class is different each time. I particularly love how Melissa makes you feel like you belong, she often stays after class to skate and you can jump in when she starts to dance and try to keep up!! I also attempted Monet's dance class but it was a little more challenging than where I'm at but she was definitely amazing and taking her class again is something I'm working toward! Everyone is so welcoming and helpful including the desk staff!! I love that it's a woman owned and run business. The owner Isabelle (aka "Ringer") is typically there, working with the staff, talking to guests, and even rolling around the rink. It's really an amazing community and has definitely become my happy place. I really needed a community after a year and a half of distancing and DU is perfect because it's all outdoors!! If you don't have your own skates (yet πŸ˜‰), not to worry because they have rentals!! No matter what level of skater you are, whether you just want to roll, or you want to learn how to advance your skills, dance on skates, or learn derby, there is something for you at DU. I hope to see you there, relishing in the joy of skate!

Derby United is the BEST place to learn to skate, from return to learn classes for beginners to intermediate and advanced dance classes, I always leave feeling more confident in my skating ability. This is NOT just roller derby, I've learned to do jumps and spin from guest instructor Dirty Deborah Harry, and learned to dance skate from Melissa Cabral and Monae Tate! I recommend classes at DU to all of my friends who want to learn to skate or up their game.

My first skate class happened here after almost 25 years. I can't express how lovely this place is-from the plants to the decorated recycled skates that they use as pots or even the beautiful artwork. Everyone who I have encountered has been very welcoming and accommodating and I plan to continue my roller skating journey here! Plus Dirty Deborah Harry happens to teach some amazing classes here too on occasion!

San Diego Derby United is a hidden gem! I’m almost hesitant to share this review because it’s so special and I want to keep it to myself, BUT people you need to experience this magical place ASAP! For one, it’s an incredible outdoor rink. Nice and smooth and just beautiful to go to on a sunny day or a warm evening. They have it all from skate lessons with your fav YouTube teacher, the amazing Dirty Deborah Harry, to super fun night time sessions (Latin night, pride skate, hip hop, etc), kids classes, and even jam skating lessons as well. I must also note that the owner, Isabelle Ringer, is so wonderfully nice too and she is very welcoming to beginners and out-of-towners like myself. So whether you are a local or just want to come to SD for a short weekend getaway, put this place at the top of your list.
