This is an amazing center filled with interactive displays that aren't just educational but really cool. Young and old will enjoy this place. They also have a planetarium and a series of events where you can learn more from very interesting and knowledgeable people. We happened to be in town visiting and decided to go to a presentation we found out about online about the August Sky. The educator, David McDonald was wonderful to learn from and made the entire experience enjoyable for the young ones and the older ones in the audience. If you're in town, visit this place that pays homage in a fantastic way to two hometown heroes, Alan Shepard and Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher astronaut.

The museum was interesting and fun. Though my friends and I have been grown-ups for a long time, it was exciting to learn or re-learn information about space and history. We saw the "Black Hole" presentation in the planetarium, it was captivating and mind boggling! I found my thinking filled with a lot of what ifs and thinking about science in ways I have not in a long time. I can see the McAuliff -Shepeard Discovery Center being a great place for kids with a passion for science, space, rockets, etc. and a great place to spark the imaginations of those without.

Museum was fun and the planetarium was great. I wish the place was a little bit bigger with more exhibits but it was a great time regardless. I really enjoyed their Mt Washington exhibit they currently have on display.

We loved it! We have been to KSC before, as we are Floridians. This definitely had something else. The planetarium was a new experience for my five year old, and he ran from station to station. I would definitely recommend if you have any space lovers in the group!

$8.50 for children 12 & under; $10.50 for students 13+; $10.50 for seniors; $11.50 for adults. As of January 1, 2018
During the school year, the museum is open to the public on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10:30am to 4:00pm. During the summer, the museum is open 7 days per week from 10:30am to 4:00pm. There is no schedule for when the observatory is open; it will be open when the weather is clear and when staff members are available to supervise.
I would say that the giftshop overall is good. It has toys, books, and other paraphernalia that focuses on science, astronomy, and some of the history behind the MSDC. Of course, there is also Astronaut ice cream, and other toys and sundries.
We have about 80% of the Mount Washington Observatory's Weather Discovery Center exhibits on display. We haven't finished repairing and updating the boat exhibit (fluidic motion, wind) but the rest are in action, including MWO's beloved Shaky Shack (the replica of the 1930s-era weather observing station) that simulates the record-breaking 231 mph surface wind gust the April, 12 1934 MWO crew experienced.
We just started our fall/winter hours again. Open from 10:30a.m. - 1 p.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. Friday, Saturday & Sunday , plus Columbus Day and Veterans' Day. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years Day. Open daily Dec 26-31 2021 and Jan 2-3, 2022.
Thanks to a generous donor (Rick, Domino's Pizza in Concord), we have a box of solar eclipse glasses to distribute to our patrons!
